Hi All

Looking to put a bow mount electric on the tub. Is a 15 ft fiberglass, weigh about 650kg's.

What size electric should I be looking for to pull it along? I do most of of my fishing in Bris river and Moreton bay.

cheers

Depends on windage. I have 4.8M Fisher plate alloy and run a 24Volt 65lb Minnkota. The extra grunt is handy. 24volt isn't as bad as it sounds and I've never flattened the batteries in a days fishing for snapper with SP's

whats the difference between running 12volt, 24volt or 36volt systems?

And what about windage, how does that affect it?

12V means you need 1 12V Deep Cycle Battery to use it.

24V means you need 2

36V means you need 3

Deep cycle batteries can mean an outlay of up to $400 each depending on what quality you want so can make more of an outlay in setup and running costs.

By windage I think Davo's comment was reffering to the affect wind has depending on wind speed and the size of the sides of your boat. Generally speaking larger boats with higher sides are affected more by the wind and your electric needs to be able to beat wind and/or tide.

I have only had 12V motors so far, however if I put another electric on a boat larger than say 4.5m I'd seriously look at the 24v systems as battery weight isn't such an issue in a larger boat ;)

I've got a 5.2 meter glass boat and use the same setup as davo and it pulls my boat around fine and running the 24 volt you do use less battery power. plenty for a days use the only time i ran dry was when i was trolling for close to 4 hours straight on close to full noise

:'( Sounds like you need a 24v set up ....... more bucks (a 70lb 24v Minn Kota is around $1000 more than a 55lb 12V) Batteries are important along with the charger (go 10amp ship to shore)

Juzo,

If you go 24 volt then PM me and I'll show you how to setup the connections for easy charging with a 12 volt charger. Basically all I do is come home switch the circuit breaker and parellel the batteries for charging.
