i currently run a stacer 4.35barra elite with a 40 four stroke, its a great boat and kitted out just how i like it, however i have an opportunity to upgrade to a 540 freedom sport with a 115 yammie 2 stroke.

boat is 2 years old, immaculate with low hours.

the stacer is a great boat for me but not really family friendly, however i am conerned that i would be upgrading to a gas pig.

i realise a bigger two stroke is going to use more than my little four, but is it going to be that horrendous. i fish every weekend in the torres strait doing alot of trolling and long runs.

the bow rider will still give me all round fishabilty and allow me to travel out further with the family on board.

any advice or comments would be appreciated.

Hi wheelerdog
mate i am running a 1989 115hp 2stroke yammie on the back of a 5.3mtr Stebercraft 1/2 cab Fibreglass and i get pretty good n/m out of it i have a 130ltr under floor tank so it is a pretty heavy vessel but still pulls about 35 knots
normally fish from Fridays to Sunday on the water with 1/4 of tank or leave Saturday home Sunday with about half a tank and a lot of travelling

Cheers ;D ;D

not to bad then, the boat has got the maximum power bolted on, so the motor is not going to be working to hard.

what to do.....

Hey Wheelerdog,

I have a 530 Spirit with a 115 2 Stroke Johnson. Last big trip I did (after fitting a 16" stainless prop) we got 160km for 100L. That was a run from 1770 to wide of Boult reef and back in moderate slop.

Hope that gives you some idea.

Regards

John

I've got a very similar rig with the 2002 Yammie 2s Saltwater. Measured using the Navman Fuel Guage in smooth water I get 1.75km/l on the plane @ 4,000 revs. This will drop below 1.5l/km in a bit of chop and/or with a full load. I plan trips @ 1.2l/km which gives me a good margin.
