Hi Kleyny,

I have just insured my boat with RACV (Vic) for $9000 value and it cost me $224 with a $200 excess. That covered the boat, motor and hull and $10 Millon public liability. You can also have a 'lay up period' which will reduce the cost by 5% per month. I don't know if this is expensive or not but my daughter made a claim through this insurer and they were very good in sorting out her accident.

Hope this is helpful.

Regards Wal.

I've noticed on this and other forums when the subject of Insurance is brought up, most people seem to regard the cost of the premium as being the main deciding factor. I would observe that the company's claims performance is far more important, and could far outweigh any difference in premium.
I have been insured with Club Marine for over 25 years, and have been very happy with their service. They are also a specialist Marine broker, and understand the fine details of boat insurance very well.

Hi Kleyny,
I am in the same boat (no pun intended).
My insurance ran out at the end of September, I was with RACQ but I had shifted and did not get the bill, even though I had rang up and changed my address (story for another day).
I am looking for cover for my Quintrex, worth somewhere between 18 and 20 grand I guess.
Club Marine and RACQ both have sites where you can get an online quote, so do some others. For me Club Marine is almost $100 more a year, I cant see that RACQ would be bad enough to not take advantage of the difference in premium.
Anyway I will do some shopping around and see how I go, but I will be going with one of the more well known companys.
I have only had the boat 3 years and never had a claim, so I cant really comment on service, so I guess all I can say is I am $300 better off so far.

I'm with GIO, $400 odd for $33k boat fully comp includes submerged object damage, and includes skiers insurance.

I do get a discount for having vehicles and house with them.

Never had a claim but got friends who have claimed GIO with no dramas.

Hi Daz

You should approach your sales team about doing a super deal for Ausfush members. I have done this before in other industries and you will be amazed at the deals you can get when you have the numbers.

Organise a post (with the blessing of the Mods) and get your sales guys on the job!!! ;)

I have my Quintrex with CGU. I found the premium was just right(good enough to keep the Mrs of my case) and with monthly deductions from my account at no extra its worked out great.

I found a few of the other companies had hidden catches in the policies that you had to have to make a claim so check that part out. (Mainly theft clauses)

Cheers ;)

That's correct... additional excesses if you do not take reasonable precautions to prevent an event... Once again check your policy booklets...

Cheers Megsy, I'll see what I can do... provided the mods agree... Should be ok... I don't earn any commission...
