G'day

Just wondering if anybody knows where or if Spearfish boats are located. They where on the Gold Coast in the late 90's and had 2 boats reviewed on boat point a 21 and a 15. I am interested in the Spearfish 15. If they are no longer in production does anybody know what happened to the molds for the 15?

Hey Todd,

They were built by Ron Campbell here on the Gold Coast. He is still up the road from you on Brissie Rd, building "Bullet" ski boats at Boat Park. He also still has the 15 moulds. A guy on here had one built around 12 months ago. Do a search.

Regards

Darren

not all spearfish were built by ron cambell. Two 22 foot centre consoles were built by blackwatch. ::)

I think more than 2 where built by Blackwatch but Ron was the foreman at Blackwatch and leased the moulds to them so where really built by Ron. Ron has the 25ft Blackwatch centre console mould at his factory and a near completed boat in the shed.

Smithy here on Russ' login.

Plenty of info on the Pakula Marlin Bar about them. #You would need to do your homework with him.

There is one on the side of the road at Redland Bay for sale at present. It has a 75 hp etec on the back. The guy wants $21000. I wondered why it had been there for over a month as it looks very clean and tidy. Now I know!

As a proud owner of a spearfish i am looking for other owners as i have some important information you must know also i am after anyone who had anything to do with the build process of these boats, i have done some research and have found that Ron Campbell from Black Watch Boats had a big part to play with spearfish boats, i am interested to know if he was over seeing the production of these boats even more was he hands on.

Ron Campbell owned the original molds and did a deal with Dave (Blackwatch) that didn't last long. My hull was built at Blackwatch and was then moved to Rons place to finish off.

Ron was involved hands on with all Spearfish boats built, mainly with his son.

The 15' was the Blackfin mold.

ok thanks for that info, for such a great hull it a shame they didn't continue the greatness internally, the ones built with a fiberglass fuel tank in them are a ticking time bomb and if any one has one get it checked asap, the builders didn't use a chemical resistant glass in them and over time the fuel breaks down the fibers causing leaks and a hull like these that don't have drain holes this is a disaster waiting to happen, i only no this because my boat has literaly fallen the peices there is no strength to these hulls no wonder the transom fal out wen it was only made with two bits of ply 12mm thick

There was a Spearfish built for an member on here " Ninja" and it was a bloody train wreck. As stated above the hull should be great but the build quality was very very poor! the stringers were stuffed within the first year and after about 4 attempts to rectify the issues the owner gave up. I would have some issues getting one built i thinkl!

I see a 21 foot one for sale at Roslynn bay Yeppoon and it even looks like a rough build.

Stay away from Spearfish crap! As mentioned in the other post. I was on Philh's boat when the tank leaked both times (once before and once after being "fixed". Biggest pile of sh!t on the water.

If anyone is looking for Spearfish 15 centre consoles you can now get them from Millennium Boats....contact myself (craig) on 0404184562 or Chris on 0411667578.

Chris has been building quality boats for years (check our his ski boats and weekenders on boatpoint and other sites). He now has the moulds to the spearfish 15 (or 16) centre console.

One has just been built and does not have the underfloor fuel tank.

Hi I was under the impression the Spearfish 21 was based of the original Savage Marlin 21?

It was the original Marlin yes. Used to own one myself, chalk selling that up to biggest phuckup i've made in recent years. Lesson there people, just cause you aint using something and have a great offer made on it, doesnt mean you should sell it. You'll regret it every day after, as i have :)

So the disaster continues we opened up the forward bulkhead and to no surprise the underside of the ply had ignited at some stage but due to the amount of water it was holding up there it put itself out lucky for us, also we found four two litre milk bottles glassed in there used for buoyancy what a joke, 60 hrs of grinding the oil from the hull, we are now back to bare glass and they sure must have run out of cash as they only glassed over the bearers and 25mm either side of them this has led to a weak point between them now we have pressure cracks the length of the hull now we are back to bare hull we can start the rebuild and build it properly this time with the hull being foam-filled, bearers every 18inches across the hull, 24-0z woven roving glass and forward hard top cab we should have a strong great preforming boat

Have you got any pic's SD. I'm interested in seeing the hull shape. something like the Haines 445 I'd imagine. Sorry to read about your bad hull. I never cease to wonder why there are no ADR design reg's for rec boats.

There is one on the Gold Coast as well. It has a Hpdi Yammie on it. Ring Jase from A1 Supercheap Tyres.
