looking to re prop my 40 evinrude .... any ausfishers with any old props i could try. the rude currently wears a well worn 11 3/4 x 17 pitch. boat goes ok (40kph @ 4000rpm on a 4.75 1/2cab) but lacks grunt on the back of a swell. any advice on pitch would be welcome ( what do the pitch numbers actully mean?) anyone with a prop to try please PM me

take a prop with the size 11 3/4 x 17
11 3/4 is the diameter
17" is the pitch, the pitch is the distance one rev of the prop will move in one revalution. This does not allow for slippage, there will always be some slipage.
cheers

The pitch is how far the prop will turn in one revolution in a semi permeable membrane, like jelly. If you got a 17" pitch prop, then in 1 revolution it should dig in 17 inches.
