They steer all right. I've seen a poster of this boat which was advertising Hydrive hydraulic steering. The add went something like "2000hp - if Hydrive can do this with two rams it can do your boat".

Thanks for posting the pic Sepultallica, I've been looking for a copy to show some friends.

Chris.

I can imagine what the cargo would be on this boat as they dissappear over the horizon from the US coast guard.

Ive seen of the same boat in full flight outside, imagine 2000 horses to play with. From what I have heard it is used by one of the SE Asia Coast Guard as a fast way of getting to distress calls, mainly pirate attacks in those waters around Taiwan, Hong Kong etc.

Is that the cheapest, most economical way to get 2000 Hp.
You wouldn't think so but a lot of them do it.

although i now its probably all paired off with controls 4 a side..imagine if it was all independt throttles.. coming in would be an absolute shitfight..let alone manouvering !! and would take u 10 minutes to start them all up !!

Wonder what sort of speed they get out of this thing at full noise. Maybe they dont know as they cant keep the fuel up to it long enough to try!

snapperm8
03-11-2006, 07:00 PM
geeze that would be 1 fast piece of gear yer u would think they would do something a bit more fuel economical but hay if its coast guards y not just wast some more tax payers money haha

Now thats what I call a rubber duck ;D

At full noise, it would be using around 600 litres an hour :o :o :o

I wonder is every second motor counter rotating??

Cheers

I would of hoped for something more spectacular.
Bet he wished he put 8 x 300HP's on it.

When you look at the pics, and the cabin, it's actually quite a big boat. not your average 7-8 metre is it

Looks a bit silly really, how could that be efficient, was there any real thought that went into it. I spose she'd be up there reliability wise - "One motors down skip,"... "That's alright 7 more to go." ;D

Wonder how much the outside motor would cavitate in a turn!!! ;D

Kerry
07-11-2006, 08:35 AM
Being a Panga design and of course the "intent" of what this boat does then it helps when one is chasing those miserable underpowered 7 outboardy jobs.

He who has the most outboards wins!

Yet you have the audacity and cheek to criticise 3 different owner's KC2400's with twin DF140's:

These 140 4S's going on to KC2400's? One would have to call that HP over kill as there is no way they require twin 140's but for new comers I suppose most have this fixation with speed and "holeshots".

I know the argument is always extra HP at no extra weight but really for what purpose, what does it achieve? # #

I assure you each owner is extremely pleased with their current setup and wouldn't have it any other way. #;D ;D

Next time you see a KC 2400 being chased by a chopper or with 50 cal from the "opposition" you let me know!

Kopey
07-11-2006, 09:04 PM
This fixation with "holeshots" and wanting to run bigger props for thrust? especially where Cats are involved and especially with ones that do a lot of towing is pure americanised BS.

"Holeshots" can't stand the term >:(

Yes Kerry, whatever you say! ;D ;D ;D ;D

what is wrong with having more horsepower than usual.
how many people on here think they have an overpowered boat.
if you have let us all know what you've got.

Still workin on that one Lippa, Big Unit just sold my beloved 20ft Glassy for me, the owner still let's me use her on weekends providing I keep her regularly serviced which is a bl@@dy great deal for us (me and Big Unit can still go chase billy's out wide).

Point I'm tryin to get across is if you want to do it you can. You don't need some so called expert over your shoulder all the time telling you what you should do just 'cos they think they're an expert especially when the manufacturer of the boat states they are okay to bl@@dy well do so.

"Because I can," it's a bl@@dy good reason!

Nothing if the boat can handle the outboard (weight etc). Extra power can help if weather comes in or when in trouble. Bit of speed never goes astray either.. :)

Still like to know how much cavitation those starboard far side engines would be getting in that photo above in that lean into a turn. :-?

OMG!

Kopey
16-11-2006, 10:16 PM
Still reckon they would've been better off with a couple of big sterndrives. Alot less maintanance, wiring, fuel & oil lines, cabling, fuel consumption and whats more, being in the boat they would of been easier to make bullet proof!!!

I spose with that many engines to stop that wouldn't be such a big issue. Is there any real genius behind this boat other than the fact they drive 8 motors at once??? :-?

onerabbit
17-11-2006, 04:42 PM
Nah, Apache helicopter engines would be cheaper to run than 8 of them.
