Who's going to service the motor you buy?.

The one to buy has to be the best tech trained in whatever brand; who you know to be qualified, reliable and isn't going to rip you off and preferably won't turn untrained' unqualified apprentices loose on it.

Cheers

How can you even put Evinrude& Yamaha,in the one sentence.

I know we're talking different Hp's but I've got a 90Hp E-tec on my reef boat and a 20hp Yammie on my creek boat.

Both are bloody good motors and I wouldnt consider any other motors for the jobs they do but, like I said, we're talking different HP's.

For your use, I think you couldnt go past the Evinrude, but I'm sure the Yammie is a good motor too.

Cheers

i brought the same boat and the dealer who sells both brands talked me into the etec and it goes great , early days though . i have been in a 575 with a 150 etec and it is real good and also been in a 625 with a 150 yamaha hpdi which was a great performer as well .

eithier way you go would be ok i suppose , i think the yamahas are cheaper .

the yamaha i saw ran a 21 p prop and it got up great and had good speed

i am very interested in this post as i am about to look at buying the same boat and was wondering if 150 is enough to push it loaded with fuel and 3 blokes and fishing gear without having to ring its neck.

But if a 150 can handle it that's more i can spend on other toys for it !!!
sorry i cant help with your motor question

my views are there are no crap motors as long as you get it serviced regularly and flush most times you use it.

G'day Andrew,

and welcome aboard..

Hard choice, as I too like both brands...

Chimo makes a very good point regarding the service
aspect, and you should consider that carefully..

They are two totally different injection systems as well,
so you should do some homework on these to see which
one you would be most comfortable with..

For mine, I would feel feel more confident with the Yamaha.

Good luck..

Harry.

I know a guy with a 625 and a 150 carby Johno on it, he is very dissapointed in the 150, I would suggest you do some more research on the 625 as on his comments I would think a 175 is bare minimum to get it to perform.

garry , the 625 i was refering to was bill cortens , and it cracks with a 150 hpdi . did the bar crossing course with 5 blokes in it and it impressed me so much i brought one , but i admitt i went for the 200 etec only cause i like wasting money lol , the 150 would have done the job no worries .

For a reasonable motorcycle.. #get a Yamahahaha..

For marine use. Go with a reputable outboard manufacturer like Jonnyrude or Merc. #;)
They were making these motors when the nips were ducking nukes.... :o

And the nips were still able to put them in there place when they brought out the Yamaha outboard they were miles ahead. There was a poll on here not long ago about what brand motor people were using can't remember which one was the most popular.

Andrew,
I have a 625 outsider with a hpdi 175 yammy, it goes well but if I had a choice again I would go the e-tec, I think the 150 will push it ok but you can never have enough power, how much difference in price between the 150 and 175.
PM me if you want more details.
