G-day guys

Who out there uses there boat name as there call sighn , or do you have a different call sighn?

Just wondering as I have yet to name my boat I have just been logging on using my rego numbers, I have found that to be one less thing to say overe the radio.
Is there a particular advantage in having a seperate call sighn?

Cheers Good as Gold

Much easier for the radio operator to hear a call sign. The name as against 6 digit rego number.................. just easier in my opinion to use a cal sign

Some times people dont put a lot of thought into boat names and using them as log in names, some of the so called "funny" names would or could be hard to interpret.

then ask them to spell it using the phonetic alphabet................ that should be part of the radio license, knowing the phonetic alphabet

Whether you sign on with rego or call sign it's a good idea to give the VMR or similar organisation all your details before hand. Some have a standard form to fill out with all your details.

My local sea rescue (Woolgoolga) gives a W# when you sign up with all your details and also a photo of your boat.

Mine is W69 but I will answer to my Boat name Good SPOT as well

If you decide to use the name of your boat , you better make sure yu have it written on the side of your boat.

The Irish Phonetic Alphabet

Most Ausfishers know (or have heard of, at least) the english phonetic alphabet...alpha bravo, charlie, Delta, Echo etc

Here's the irish one which takes phonetics to new hites ;D

Read it out loud, it helps...

A for 'Orses
B for Mutton
C for Ships
D for Enshall
E for Gas
F for Vessant
G for Police
H of a Cliff
I for An Eye
J for Oranges
K for Natives
L for Leather
M for Siss
N for End
O for The hills and far away
P for Relief
Q for A Bus
R for Conan Doyle
S for Williams
T for 2
U for Joyce
V for La France
W for Your Money
X for Breakfast
Y for Mistress
Z for Sedan

Think about it.....

If its got big teeth it eats meat, That includes power saws.
