I have heard a few comments regarding new motors about them loosening up after a certain run in period and that revs and top end speed can increase.

My question is how many hours before a new engine is considered to be loosened up? and what sort of increase can you expect. My engine is Mercury 60hp 4st and I have done 35 hours so far. I think it may be marginally better but nothing to write home about

cheers

When it's closer to 100hours they tend to settle in. The engine tends to respond, sound and run smoother and usually the fuel consumption improves ...foxy

I was told my Merc 115 4 stroke would need 100 hours before she opened up and settles. 100 hours is also a major service schedule. Sad thing is I ain't got the time to get the hours up :(
