Do boating regulations require me to carry oars when i'm in the bay or river. I've got a 4.35M boat.

Yes you need some form of auxilliary propulsion-oars,paddles or an aux motor on a boat that size. :)

For QLD

But don't forget the general safety obligation

Don't bother with the all plastic type used by kids in the blow up canoe. Might as well have some icre-cream containers on a paddlepop stick.
But these type are pretty good

Shop about though. You can get them for about $17

The:-

" Guide to Recreational Boating & Fishing in Queensland " which is a FREE pamphlet available in all tackle shops, chandlery's and most Marine outlets is the guide you need to answer all your questions regarding safety equipment you need to carry on your boat.....and a lot more.

The :-

" The Official Tide Tables & Boating Safety Guide " at $7.50 and produced by the Maritime Safety people is, IMO< a better book as it supplies much more information than the previously mentioned pamphlet. These are available at the above mentioned stores as well as most newsagents.

Both are good reading and a worthwhile investment.

I tried to use my oars once, when I broke down.
Can't say they did much, no chance against wind and/or current.

Oars are useless in a half decent sized boat - 4 weeks ago my motor stopped (accidentially pulled the kill switch and didn't realise) about 15 foot from the jetty in a current. Took me ten minutes to paddle it in and I was stuffed. lucky I was'nt 2 K's out.

Cheers
