I am not sure which motor to get - Suzuki 115 - 4 stroke or Etec 115 - 2 st. The Suzuki dealer said that the Etec is 1350cc and the Suzuki is 2000cc so the Etec has to work alot harder to get the same power. What do you all think ?
There is a new Tohatsu 115 DI coming out now that is $10000 - $11000 plus fitting, sound like a good price to me. I wonder if the Tohatsu is a clone of another motor .... maybe Mercury ???

The two stroke fires every time the piston comes up where the four stroke only every second time. #Therefore the two stroke can make the same power from half the capacity.

The Etec would have better acceleration, but would probably use a bit more fuel.

Check the weight difference between them. I think the Etec is 172 Kg.

No idea about the Toey - they are good motors made in Japan.

Hope that helps.

I am looking at a Polycraft 5.3 Center Console & am looking to fit the 115 Etec. You would get similar fuel economy as a 4St but extra punch of the 2St.

If you are after more info on poly boats go to http://www.polyboatowners.com/

Hey,

Ive got one with a Suzuki DF115. Its a great engine and a miser on fuel. I don't find it lacking in any department. Its a great engine which has so far given me no troubles.

Find my recent post about the Polycraft service. You seriously can't beat it.

My boat is available for hire if you would like to test it out and make sure it is for you.

Contact on the number to the side.

Mate get in touch with a guy called BOY-Z. he recently brought a 5.5 poly centre console which he fitted a 115 tohy 2S on the back of it. PM him for some tips as his still sorting out the correct prop size for this hull to achieve maximum RPM's and economy etc.

Hey Runy,

I've purposely got it underpropped for the use it gets, ready to carry loads.

She revs out to 6000rpm, and runs 33 knots flat out in calm water.

It cruises best at 3800-4000rpm pulling around 25 knots.

P.S. It is a miser on fuel, averaging 10l/h at 4000rpm. ;D

Im a happy man.

A friend has a 75 ETEC on a smaller quinnie, and he told me it drinks the fuel compared to what he expected. I've never run that boat.

Hey Darren,
Your figure of 10lph,or around 4.5km to the litre sounds unreal. Is this reading taken off the GPS or fuel gauge?
If so,have you done figures over the course of a full tank or a long trip?

cheers Scott

sounds like it'll be the 4 stroke Suzuki ..... would love to bolt the 140 Suzuki on though but because of warranty I'll stick to the 115. The 140 is actually 3 kg's lighter than the 115.

Hey Guys,

Yes, the 10l/h I have recieved was calculated by actual fuel used over a trip of 100nm. It was calculated using a full tank to start, the hour guage, gps distance, and fuel refilled to top at end of trip. I cruised for at least 90NM on that trip at 4000rpm. It also had the occasional sprint at WOT, it was the run in trip for the motor. I too was amazed and happy.

I too tried to get the factory to upgrade to a 140, but yes, they refused. My boat is also considerably heavier than most, considering it is built and in survey (more foam), has dual batteries and all the bells and whistles.

I've got a poly bought second hand with a Merc 4st but if I had the choice I would go the Etec. They are both great motors but the Etec will have more grunt, be lighter & way cheaper to service.

are you sure of that???? It will be lighter for sure, but the jury is still out on the rest.

the Suzuki 115 is only 13kg's heavier than the Etec 115 ... I really thought it would be alot more.
