After many months of research #I have finally put a deposit down on a stacer 429 seahorse with a 30hp mariner ;D. #The dealer has it in the yard and just needs to finish rego details ect, should have it by next weekend at the latest :D :D :D :D
I would of liked to of gone the 40 but i didn't think the odd thousand more dollars was worth it, the 30 should push ok i reckon anyways. #I havent been fishin for weeks cos I've taken a weekend job to pay for it so I really can't wait to finally being back on the water after nearly 12 months boatless. :P :P :P :P
cheers Jono ;D ;D

Congrats mate, i have a new 4.2m stacer seahawk powered by a mercury 30 lihgt weight motor and she powers along nicely. I to was going to go a 40 but happy that i didnt, 30 has plenty enough power for that size i feel.
Enjoy and show us a pic when you get her.

G'day Jono,
Good choice on the hull, mate.
However, If its not too late, I would DEFINATELY go
for the forty... with power trim.....
It will be a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT boat..(well worth the extra $$)
I reckon you'll hate the 30 after a couple of months or so.
If you get a chance, go for a run with the forty on it.
There is a HUGE difference between these motors on that hull.
The fuel economy will be heaps better with the 40 as well.
Good luck
Harry.

I had my first boat, a Quinnie 4.2m with a 30hp and she serve me well #:)
The Seahorse with a 30hp will serve you well #;D for every day fishing the 30hp does the job #;)
A very versatile rig that is !

Yer mate I would of loved to of gone the forty but don't have the cash for it. I'm gettin the 30 for a real good price. I went there to look at the 395 model but got aproval for the 429 so I aint complaining. I've got a mate who has a forty on his but says he hardly uses the throttle anyways. The forty certainly would be nice though,

Performance as a guess around 28 to 32kph cruise and up to 38-42kph flat out, with a 40 you could add up to another 7kph to each, although the final numbers will be dependent on how you prop it.

cheers fnq, I dont reckon it will be too under powered.

No not underpowered 20hp would be a pain, 30hp sounds adequate to me, after all it is a bay/nearshore fishing rig.

Hi Jono.
Partly, that was one of my points..
The 30hp would be ''adequate'' on the 3.95, but as the 429 seahorse is a larger,
deeper, beamier hull, with a deeper V than the others mentioned here,
I think you'll find that you'll be ''workin'' it most of the time.
It'll be slow to get on the plane with any more that 2 fellas plus gear in it.
I don't mean to deride your choice, as you said, budget constraints given,
but, with the 40hp PTT, it would be a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, and much
better boat. :) # :)

Hi Jonno. I've got a 4.2 mtr stacer seahorse that had a 40 yammy til someone lifted it. The boat was overpowered for stillwater and the only time the throttle got opened up was if a couple of 100 kilo mates were sitting on the casting deck. I'm going to get a 30 as well because I believe it is adequate for such a boat (and about 25 kilo's lighter). As with you, budgetry constraints were taken into account. The guys might h ;)ave a point about fuel economy as I used to get two trips to the 'pin from Jacobs Well ramp on a 23 litre tank which isn't bad for a carburetted two stroke. Time will tell. Enjoy your boating/fishing. ;)

Sorry to hear about the motor being stolen greyfox......bastards
Yer i presume the 40 would get extremely good fuel economy just the budget doesn't quite allow it. Cant wait though.
Good luck with the new motor.
cheers jono
