Ive tired to use that weedy stuff as bait, but its too hard to get.
what are other alternatives?

oh and what is the best type of rig to use?

can anyone suggest a good rig index type book?

On the Shoalhaven, we regularly get luderick on squirt worms fished on a paternoster rig and no. 4 hook.

Hi,
The standard type of rig for blackfish is a light stem float , about 6lb(3kg) line weighted with split shot sinkers and a size 8 or 10 sneck hook. Adjust the float level by adding weight to the line so that only the top stem of the float is visable above the water. Bait the hook with green weed by winding it around the shank of the hook and leaving an inch or so hanging below (just nip of any excess).
Weed is available at most tackle stores that sell fresh bait, just look around (or grab the phone book).
Blackfish will also at times take squirtworms and live nippers, but the baits should be small as they have small mouths. Weed is definatly the best bait as these fish are vegatarian.
When fishing for them allow the float to go under and wait a second or two before striking, and don't strike too hard, just simply raise the rod upwards .
Other tips would be to coat your line with a lightcovering of vasaline to make it float,
and use plenty of berly , (finely chopped weed and damp sand mixed)
Cheers
