Mick,
I have caught plenty of big summer whiting in winter. I reckon some of the biggest i have caught have been in winter at night. Quantity isnt always as good as in summer but quality can be better. Fresh bait is the go, and I usually fish the shallow water on yabbie banks on a run in tide.
Cheers

Greg

Summer whiting is only the name given to that varity, in the Sandy Straights the best summer whiting are caught through the winter months, just like I have seen good catches of winter whiting caught around christmas time at Tin Can Bay and in front of Poona. Bob.

Mick, In the winter months we fish for summeries in shallow water over yabbie banks, if the water is clear you need to keep out a bit so you dont spook them and cast as far away from the boat as you can. Full moon nights are also a good time to target them on the banks. In the hotter months you will find them in a bit deeper water during the day, but on the f/moon nights they will still go up shallow on the banks. Bob.
