Hi All,
Caught this colourful fellow in the Pumistone Passage using squid as bait. I released him straight after the photo. That spine looked like it could do some damage.
Hope the picture attaches OK as its my first try.
Thanks
Michael

That looks like a Blacktip Tripod Fish, Trixiphichthys weberi. they are very common in the Bribie Passage. Many of the nibble bites you get while fishing in the Passage are due to these critturs, they have a very small mouth and need a fairly small hook.

They must be a species of leather jacket are they?
Certainly looks like one.

The Grant's Guide claims this one to be a "yellow fin" Tripod fish, Tripodichthys angustifrons, for what it's worth.
Looks a bit like a leatherjacket.

You would have to be careful when you had your hand in the tank, it's pretty scarey cleaning my catfish tank, the big one does laps while I clean.................
