Garmin 126/128 software updates

Has anyone downloaded software updates from the Garmin site and updated their GPS with a newer version?

My 126 unit currently runs v2.06 and I notice on the Garmin site that v2.10 is the latest. However, because it is only updating french translations I wouldn't bother this time.

As a matter of interest:
-Do others update their GPS software?
-Or is it coinsidered not necessary/not recommended?
-Are there any pitfalls to watch out for?

I've got a Garmin 128 & used to have a 126.

Have been running 2.10 since it was released.

I always update whenever a new firmware is released.


Only pitfall is if your unit or PC turns off halfway through an upload. Likely will stuff the unit.

I have a garmin Map 76 and updated the marine info (beacons, markers, etc) the other day. Worked fine, but I haven't worried about the operating software for the same reason as yours, Morlers. Who cares what happens in France?
