Help radio advise

My VHF radio seems to be playing up. People can't here me clearly and I can't here them clearly. It's a new radio ICOM with a big arial.
Anyone know anybody northside of Brisbane that can help. Could it need swering?? in. Any solutions appreciated.

could be the connector ?? What sort of antenna have you got>

as Heath says, I'd be checking the plug on the end of the antenna cable (might pay to remove it, trim the coax and replace) and the connection of the plug to the radio.

Had the same problem with my Icom. It came with an aerial with a screw in connector. Of course this didn't get a connection. Got it soldered and now it's brilliant.

The latest update is that I'm being heard as a whisper??
Heath. I have a 9ft ariel that is attached to the stainless rocket launchers.
Jeremy. Can these connectors be trimed and replaced.

Your loosing power when you transmit. reterminate the connector making sure you solder the center conductor.

I forgot to say our fishing club got a new Icom a couple of months back and it wouldn't transmit properly. After days of fiddling the unit went back to BIAS. A week later it came back with the tuner adjusted. Maybe a bad batch?

Thanks Whiteman I may have to take it all backfor a check. I was just trying to avoid being without a VHF for a week, thats why I was trying to get it checked on the boat.

On sunday it actually changed - early on I could hear you clearly but at the end of the day you were a whisper. I think Chris was in the same boat. Must have had something to do with the banging it recieved.
