Hi all
I am only new to boat fishing and have a few problems understanding the display on my depth sounder. Does anyone know of a good site to go too which explains what the sounder display is telling me. Also which settings such as sensitivity and bottom display are the best to use?

What brand of finder do you have? Try their site or try a Google search

There are no one set of settings to use. It's a combination of several settings that gives you the best picture.

The advise I can give is -
When travelling leave the unit on Auto for Depth.
Leave sensitivity on manual and adjust for the depth of water you are fishing.
When you arrive at your spot, use the limits on your sounder for the depth of water you are fishing. This will give you the clearest picture.
To adjust gain correctly, put it to maximum & then back it off until the area of water you intend to fish is clear. The speckled effect up to the surface is called surface clutter and is normal.
