Hi All,

Caught this 53cm Mangrove Jack in the Coomera river with a live poddy mullet body pierced with a 2/0 suicide hook on 20lb spiderline supermono.

Great fight as per usual with the Jacks ;D but once in the boat I ??? noticed my old mate was carry a bit of extra tackle with him.

On inspection of the stomach contents all I found was a #set ganghooks on the end of what seemed to be a 60-70lb leader then brass swivel(now copper) then to 25-30lb main line.

I guess he has snatched somes one pilchard a ran them into the rocks, which I gather happened 2-3 days earlier, before I came along :)going by the corrosion rate.

Cheers Lyndo

Nice Jack,
would have been well over 10 years old.

Thanks Brett & Lachie 1,

Hookin,Brett thanks for the estimate on the jacks' age, I've only ever landed 3 jacks from the coomera river 48,45 & 53 cms and I guesstamated the 53cm fella to be 8-10 years old.

So if the Mangrove Jack Guru ;D reckons about 10 y.o. I was'nt too far out.

Cheers Lyndo

They often come in carrying someone elses tackle!
A few times I have given some mates thier tackle back after removing the hooks.
A few blokes I know fish one of the areas I do, and I can always recognise thier tackle cause they use yellow pre-test line. They don't mind having another go, even with a gob full of metal.
Tough little buggers!!!
