The Australian Government has paid $40 million to those impacted by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority's increase of no-go zones from 4.5 per cent to 33 per cent last year.

The figure includes:

119 licences bought out through the tender process
18 full business restructure assistance pay-outs (to purchase new equipment to cope with the changes)
383 simplified business restructure assistance payments
336 approvals for business advice
94 payments to individual employees.

The Government expects a further 300 applications for business restructuring/exiting.

Those seeking advice or assistance for RAP-related closures have until December 31 to make an application through the Queensland Rural Adjustment Authority

I think there has been an extention of time - for about 3 months. But there will not be any more after that.

Read it here first...before it becomes "news".....the payments will be more than $100M

The 40M was just the commercial guys.

Mainland based buisinesses servicing the recreational fishery have been jumping through hoops for almost 18months and TFPQ has been right smack in the middle of it.

The recently commissioned "Hunt" report has quantified the damage caused and the 70+ claims in the pipleine for recreational fishing related businesses are being processed and approved. Only a tax issue remains.
