Did anyone else catch the 7.30 Report on Wed 12 Jul?
They ran a stroy about the Government byback of fishing licences.
I have no problem with the buy back scheme, my concern was with the trawler that they ran the story from.
The Lavalle Protestant brothers boat was used as the back drop with the reporter going along for the ride. They did three drops (reported). The first was a so-so catch, the second disappointing (in their words), and the third was from deep down. The amount of by catch was huge.
My concern was - from the second and third drop 2/3 of the catch went back as dead by-catch.
There was no mention of the amounts by the reporter or the crew members. This is why our waterways are becoming ghost towns. Of the fish caught very little was kept from the last two drops.
Sorry just venting.
