GBRMPA at it again

Despite the exposure of the many and varied "porkies" told during the RAP fiasco it appears the Authority is still playing the same games.

The GBRMPA commissioned the central queensland university to undertake a "survey into community expectations" regarding future management of the reef.

This survey document was an absolute loaded gun with a preamble which outlined a wide series of "potential" threats and then extrapilated these as "facts" in seeking public input throughout the document.

Complaints from TFPQ to both the department and ombudsman have resulted in a letter from Mr David Borthwich, parlimentary secretary to Minister Campbells office which says in part

"I consider the abbreviated information supplied to participants included some statements of questionable accuracy or that lacked sufficent context to be sure that they would be accurately interpreted"

& further on

"Under these circumstances, I have decided that the survey results will be put to one side and will not be used....."

TO WHIT............acknowledged this was a flawed survey with a predetermined outcome and they have "pulled it".

Pitty about the good guys' tax dollars that have been wasted on a "Claytons Survey" - the survey you have, when you're not having a survey. ::)

Good work TFPQ. Pity about the wasted money as per usual but at least they're not getting away with the usual "which one of your parents would you rather died" questions.

One of the mistakes we made during RAP was trying to attack the outcome, rather than the process and we did not read the "fine print" on proposed legislation. This is how the criminalisation of breeches by rec fishers got through. We won't make the same mistake again. Every time these "surveys" are undertaken we have to attack the survey and methodology itself.

Don't we all remember the "would you like to help protect the Great Barrier Reef" line....the question should have been, "do you think the reef needs vastly increased protection"...at least then they would have had to produce some evidence.

The great concern however is that the rezoning of the GBR is now the benchmark for future rezoning and 2007 is Moreton Bay.
