Good Afternoon All!!
Am in the process of getting manuals, regos etc together as I will be putting my custom centre console up for sale this month. Just wondering what people have found to be 'good' advertising options including social media forums and sites. Are there ones to stay away from? Do they have commission taken out of sale price? How can you reduce tyre kickers? (probably can't). I have never sold a boat privately - traded a few in but not been down this path before. Any advice would be greatly appreciated - I certainly don't want to mislead through the add and don't want to rip myself off either if that makes sense:-?
Many thanks Folks
Troy

Last time I tried to sell anything on Gumtree I was plagued by scammers.

that's crazy numbers - need to add a few more $$ to the price to compensate for the time taken to respond

I'm with Bluefin59, gumtree and eBay you'll just be hounded by tire kickers, and whatever you do, don't use PayPal method for payment, they'll hold onto you money for a while if you don't regularly sell using PayPal.
What about asking you local boat dealer to put it in there yard, saves you wasting time with tire kickers, just tell them how you you'll accept and the rest is there's.
Hope this helps.

Facebook Marketplace and don't start low with the price. You can always lower it.
I found Boatsales to be average.
Forget Gumtree or ebay. Gumtree due to scammer from China and ebay due to their horrendous fees.

for sure gumtree has the odd scammer trying you on , but i think its right up there in exposure. after you dispatch of the scammer which is usaully the first reply you get from them its is usually good after that, ive sold majority of boats and cars on gumtree and get the app on your smartphone, its pretty good. Ebay i find has a younger base group that increases tyre kicking. Boatsales is okay too , but fees are exxy .

I sold a boat a few years back & used "Boatsales" - It costs you a bit of coin depending on the type of add & how prominent the add will be . From memory my add was on for about a month & got only a few calls - but sold it to the first person who came out ….. but also got the price I wanted for it. a key is to use lots of good photos.
I'll be selling my second boat after Easter & I'll probably use Boatsales again. I think serious boat buyers always keep an eye on that site.

As for gumtree ….. no doubt that it has the exposure just as long as you put up with the scammers & low ball offers . I sold a couple of things last year & I was surprised at how quickly they sold and that I also pretty well got what I asked for them ….. low ball offers came thick and fast though.

Thanks gentlemen for the advice - all new to me including the whole facebook concept. Putting in a boat yard is pretty limited where I am due to lack of population = limited exposure but there are options regardless. Hopefully the weather will fine up a bit this weekend to drag her out of the covers / shed and get some photos and maybe even try a vid. The classified section on here doesn't seem to be as 'full' as it used to be - might throw it up on here for critique due to the significant wealth of knowledge and experience on this site. Thanks again fellas for all the advice and tips all very much appreciated!! Fortunately I have a young mate who I use for 'Tech Support' so may have to recruit him for a few beers payment.
Cheers to you all!

I've just used facebook so far and no scammers as yet. Also no $ outlay to do so.

I'm happy with swaps, just want to swap for cash!

Not taking the piss out of your brick truck mate, havent seen it so I cant take the piss out of it.
Just giving the guy other options. He will have to have a hard shell if he is going to advertise anything nowadays as there are lowballers out there everywhere.
By the way,Im not saying my offer is low ball. Its a genuine offer and should be evaluated carefully. I still maintain its a great offer and I will allow him to consider it for a week. after that I will make the same offer to someone else who is selling a boat or Rolls Royce or Jet airplane or block of flats or a small African nation with no debt, whatever I consider is a good deal.

I have had some success on boatsales but it can take a while. Also used gumtree. It's my impression that ebay is where a lot of low price boats are sold, but I could be wrong. I generally view boatporn on gumtree and boatsales and I think that's where most people looking to buy head for. Trading Post might also be worth a look. Boatsales is expensive but it's a one off payment so it stays until it's sold. So it might depend a bit on your boat. How old is it, and what price might you have on it?
