Think I may have missed a few boating days as I've always checked seabreaze.
But as I saw lot of boats going out from redcliffe today.
Made me wonder lol.
How can 2 different sites be so different ?
Says seas below 1m all week.
http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/forecasts/moreton-bay.shtml

Then just over 2m

Some apps are faster to update weather, some are slower. Also, some use data from different sources.

I use Fish Ranger (with the paid subscription) as it gives you two wind models, and the data is always fresh and pretty accurate (as it has two wind models)

I use various weather apps and have a good look at their wind speeds directions and forecasts etc. Then I look out the window.
I’ve had more days than I can count where I cancelled plans to go out ‘coz the wind was supposed to be huffin and it ended up being mirror smooth. Also had apps saying my location was blowing 15 knots realtime and I look out the window and the water has minor ripples on it.
I’ve learnt that if the apps say it’s calm, plan to go but check before, and if the apps say it’s going to blow 10-20 then it’s still possible, get up and check in the morning. If the apps say it’s going to be over 20, hit the golf course instead. Even then I’ve had 20kt forecasts and the day never went above 10. You pays your money etc.............

i used seabreeze together with the B.O.M , have found mostly to be accurate however sometimes they have both been out a little sometimes. that doesnt phase me though whether it be computer model or human anaylasis, common sense will always be my go to in deciding a trip. Gone are the days when you towed a boat two hours and not know what the sea conditions will be.

I’m in Sydney and for the lost couple of years I’ve used WILLY WEATHER. I’m not sure were they draw their info from but have found it to be pretty accurate and up to date.

Yes it can be frustrating.

Hey Steve, you are looking at 2 different things, Seas and Swell. Seas are generated by local winds in the bay, eg chop. Swell on seabreeze is talking about ocean generated waves. There is a good size easterly swell running at the moment, good for surfers, bad if you intent to cross South Passage Bar, especially on an out going tide.

It was a glorious day out in the bay yesterday, seas did reach about a meter, just under, circa 2 to 3pm, with winds at 10 to 15knots and an outgoing tide.

The sites aren't vastly different, they are describing different things.

I have found you need to look at both, if you are going offshore fishing.

Seabreeze actual readings every 15 mins is a good way to confirm the forecasts.

Cheers Adam

Also the area covered is rather large for Seabreeze and other sites. If looking at Seabreeze have a look at the individual charts, at the moment for the Sunshine Coast the SpitFire Channel is blowing 5 knots, Hervey Bay 15 knots. Also you need to identify where the wind metres are located, eg on Willy Weather I use it for tidal information mostly as Halls Creek (the farm) is much closer to the actual tides for an area South of Bells Creek but the curren/forecast wind is taken from the middle of Beerburum Forest so is not a good measure.

Met Eye is the better tool to use, look at future forecasts, from memory the first few days the data is taken from local information and then further out it is from global sources. When planning big trips I look for consistency in the forecasts, if remain relatively the same we go but if everyday the future forecasts chop and change too much we usually don't bother as it means it'll probably be crap.

Update the app - they had an update recently and if you don’t update the app doesn’t work (you can do this by searching Fish Ranger in the App Store)

That’s annoying - might not be up to iPhone X standard yet (being so new) :-(

I was always of the opinion there is no 'swell' in moreton bay. The 'seas' are a result of wind and tide. Though I have noticed a 'set' come thru on the tide change occasionally.

I use the Windy app. Utilising the wind feature you can compare several different sources of forcast and then compare. It’s also free
