Hi guys looking for ideas at a new rod and reel combo for troling lures and baits around this summer for wahoo and Spanish Mackrell I have a budget of around $700 to spend including line after something quite robust as well
why spin ?
Traditionally overheads make the best option for trolling

I purchased a TLD15, and then a cheap trolling rod for about $60. It works well.

I have considered a overhead but like spin reels better as I find overheads a bit clumsy to hold but that's probly just me

You might be able to get a secondhand Stella or Saltiga for that money if you look about long enough in fleabay or gumtree
I only use the Stella's for spinning and overheads for trolling.

Yeh I get that & they are certainly better when used with a gimbal .
That said - a lever drag overhead has much more flexibility when it comes to setting the drag & usually have an audible ratchet . Opening & closing the bail arm when trolling ( line under tension) is problematic with spin
It's the reason why you don't see a lot of trolling done with spin gear .

I have run a 10000 Saragossa with a Terez heavy 40-80 a fair bit in the shotgun position have taken Spanish to 20kg with it does the job probably would want to go bigger if you got slammed by a big hoo might run out of line pretty quick
