04 40hp merc short to long conversation

I’m looking to Change my 04 merc 40hp 2 stroke from short to long/mid sorry don’t know lengths my question is is the length change in the trunk or gearbox length ?

Don't know your model, but the difference is usually the midsection, to convert, you may be able to buy a kit, that includes a spacer, drive shaft, bolts and gear shift rod, water tube extenders, or, you could just sell the motor and buy a long shaft. Why do you want to change, buy another boat?

I picked up the motor for $100 for parts the bloke said it was ceased upon removing the leg it turned over turns out the gearbox is locked up and theirs nothing wrong with the motor the motor runs fine
I need a long leg not a short

Yes it’s a short Iv also got a 40hp Mariner long/standard length
