Hi all , id like to have two tanks set up running independantly and isolated from each other by a t-piece, can anyone tell me where and what they have done , even a basic plumbed diagram would be good, and idealy the t-piece itself, dont think ive ever seen a fuel one before. thanks all.

Mates rig runs one of these.

Never tried to do that, but I reckon any plumbing or gas specialist would have what you need, it will be made of Brass though, so needs to be kept away from Aluminium.

What's your current set up, what are you proposing & what are you trying to achieve?

I've got the one Scott posted up from Whittworth's and it works fine (Switches between main tank & fuel bladder), just use some fuel approved thread tape (Google) and the correct sized fillings (Whittworth's) >>> no leaks, the brass dis-colours quickly but doesn't impact performance.

ok thanks guys, great info and didnt think about brass , simply im setting up wing tanks and would like the option to switch between the two as my tanks are going under a false floor. running the two lines into a fuel seperator. i was just curious whether one should run a extra shut off valve to isolate both lines in case of changing out the one line going into the engine for whatever reason , than again its not that complicated, wack on a pair of vice grips on the other. no no that would be rough wouldnt it ....... so if i where to mount brass fitting, i would need to put a piece of material to keep it of the alluminium, right? because it will start corrosion ?

you just run two lies into the fuel filter with a dedicated fitting in the separator housing
Have been running that system for 10 years.
there is a shut of valve each side .
They are quite commonly available

Sorry, don't use thread tape but liquid seal from loctite designed for fuel fittings....

small update, i bought the t-piece valve as recomended above from whitworths, awesome quality and three days to get delivered interstate, got me some of that good fuel line , the black one thats reinforced, installed a marine fuel/ water seperator and put two tanks under floor each side of the centre console so when i run one tank out of fuel , i simply turn the tap, prime and go , its great not having to see the fuel tanks and have them down the back adding to the weight. l installed the t-piece on a horizontal axis so that the inlets, outlets of the t-piece and the fuel seperator are all level with the connecton of the motor meaning the fuel line does not at any stage droop down, everything working well however since doing this little reno, at idle the motor occassionaly does a little mini sneeze/coff . have changed plugs and same result, goes hard at WOT and doesnt miss at all so im thinking perhaps with the tanks under floor and vent open a little, the new floor sits right over the tanks, surely there is enough air for the tanks to breathe, one tank is new and the other is 6months old , plastic red ones of course, perhaps next trip i could open the tank cap 1/8 a turn, and try that. thoughts.

I run what Tensing proposed but now I'm not clear on your tank setup is when you mentire cracking the tank cap a bit. Are you using portable tanks in an enclosed space under the floor, if so how are you venting them to outside the boat.

so what ive done is place the tanks on the original floor between the tharwt seats and ive done like a second floor on top to hide the tanks, sought of like a casting deck floor, there is a small opening for the vents to breathe, i should have explained that better, really happy about the t-piece valve so thanks all for your input.

Have you checked all your connections. You can use sealing tape but it has to be gas type, a wee bit dearer than plumbers tape which melts in petrol, at around $13 a roll, or locktite but which number I don't recall or Stag which is only about $8.

Sounds like you've built a bomb to me. I hope no-one you fish with smokes. You need to run vent pipes directly from the tank to a well ventilated location (gunwale or transom). If you're using red plastic tanks you can probably find a threaded hose nipple that screws in where the vent screw goes.

I must have had a few wines last night as I thought I had typed something about venting.
