It appears to me that the more room you have in the boat - the more gear you will cram into it ...... Is that what everyone else does :-[

I've been doing a bit of camping boat based fishing on the NSW south coast ...... but the problem is I have access to so many fishing options from bass & EPs in the middle & upper reaches , bream & flatties just about everywhere - jew in the middle & lower reaches & if conditions allow - I'm just a 20 min run down to the sea with great access to productive snapper & kingfish grounds .
So while the priority might be snapper & kingfish over the next 6 months or so ..... if conditions don't allow I need to have a plan B (C , D E , F) which means more gear . What makes it worst is that I have a cavernous (0.3m3) underfloor storage which means I can take a hell of a lot of lures , terminal ..... etc etc .
That might change though if I decide to reconfigure the storage & dropping a 120 lt ice box under the floor ..... & move the big 200amp battery to the forward hatch ... that will fix me ...... then I'll have to cull :'(

What's everyone else experience

Yeah I’m guilty of taking far too much on every trip. I recently completely emptied the boat and sorted through everything. I found 2 tackle trays of poppers and stick baits from when I used to chase GT’s off Townsville 4 years ago. Have not looked at them since moving south.

I find it funny I can fish happily from Adelaide to Weipa with success using a rod and a small bumbag of plastics. Have landed anything from EP to whiting to flathead to 90cm Barra and even small Spanish Mack’s, same reel, same line, same lure collection in the bag. However put me in my boat and everything is not enough.

And yes I put the 2 boxes of GT lures back in the boat post clean out.....

Ha! Guilty of this too! My compulsive obsession disorder has me loading more and more into my tub especially rod and reel combos thinking a “just in case” scenario when in fact I tend to get on the water and the same compulsive obsession disorder has me targeting a specific species so in fact I only end up using two set ups most times......🙄🙄🤔

;D Gee , I'm not that bad ..... at least my Impoundment barra lures aren't in the boat (some of the placcys are ... but hey could be good on a jew) - or my big poppers

but you have to consider every eventuality .... right ?

hi NAGG . less is more they say but i reckon the big ice box install sounds like the go, your certainly target a broad range of species , so your main target species will dictate the lures etc you carry most of the time. im a bit careless my new hooks always seems to get rusty for no reason, and then i find a rogue used hook that has made it back in the tray. aghh well back off to the tackle store me goes.

Does this mean I need to make an appointment with a phycologist/psychiatrist

The big ice box will be the go ..... or it's additional dry storage ::)

Getting a buzz out of fishing down Batemans bay ..... it's just what do you target ? - on a recent trip we got blown out (so no offshore & no lower reaches of the river) ....... headed way upstream & found some good sheltered EP / Bass in clear water - guess what ? I didn't have by smaller hardbody lures as they got taken out of the boat once I decided to start concentrating on some offshore - Those couple of trays are now back in the boat :P

well after seeing your prize catches you are indeed a fine fisherman, good variety trophy fish. l know who to ask now for tackle advice. never fished for bass or EP before , always thought its too hard, like catching luderick on weed, you need special gear for them.

I've caught EP's in Batemans Bay on vibes. Give them a go.

A very recent change of boat meant that I cleaned out the old boat and I haven't loaded up the new one with everything...yet...

This is quite typical of the Batemans Bay EPs taken around Nelligen ..... It is challenging but that adds to the appeal - specially when using light gear

I’ve managed a few decent Ep’s around Nelligen bridge on blades but haven’t tried a jackell, mask vibe or something similar. If I make it down this weekend I will give it a crack as there are some school Jew moving around with the EP’s 8-) ........ but this is exactly what I mean. Do you drive 300km and not cater for every eventuality. You can’t exactly fish for snapper in 60m of water and use the same gear to throw small lures in the oyster racks for bream .... I guess this is the downside of not specialising.

I generally have one tackle box............ for each style of fish species, last count was 8 tackle boxes.

Nagg the fact that you have raised this does suggest you have issues, I high recommend hi intensity retail therapy, lucky for you Xmas sales are here and it appears you can be saved by Santa.

One of the biggest challenges is what to take onto a mates boat when invited. Nothing worse than when they say don't bring anything.

Going to be up at the Whitsundays at Christmas - Plan for it to be a GT popper fishing trip
But also going to hopefully fish the reef flats for trout ....... on stick baits
now ... should I pack the jig sticks , micro jigs ? Placcy rods
Probably should have a couple of trolling out fits ..... could be some macks around
now if the weather turns - should I take some jack gear ..... ?

::)::)::)

I’m up here at Airlie as we post and I bought 7 outfits for me and the wife to cover trolling jigging and top water action 2 lights ,2 medium ,2heavy and one extra heavy. Something like 6 mixed size tackle boxes and my 4.5 meter bluefin side console.
I certainly think I bought too much but I bet I end up buying something else while we are up here for the next couple of weeks .. Matt [emoji41]

Hopefully the weather gods are good to you Matt - keen to hear about your travels ....... If you get over to Whitsundays Island our plan is to camp at Nari's Beach ( Cid Harbour) which we stopped at 20 years ago & looks like a pretty nice spot.
Are you planning on getting out to the reef ?

We are going to head around the islands nothing is out of bounds at this stage it all depends on the wife and my blue fins capability ,I suspect with the right weather the reef proper is on the list we will see . Whitsunday island and all the other islands in the bay are on the hit list ,including lunch at Hamo for the wife and a trip to Whitehaven . We have 22 knots building to 25 this morning then way less tomorrow until next Monday so plenty of chances ,but can we catch anything is the big question.
Looking out in the bay this morning you would think it is doable ,it always looks great up here but the wind is cold and nasty out on the open waters . Matt
