Hey guys.

Have some dilemmas with the new cat, it seams as though the hoop is hitting the boat when launching, as per photos gel coat is damaged. Does anyone know of someone that would be able to fix both on the north side of Brisbane?

Was just going to get the hoop cut and dropped like other trailers.

Cheers Dan https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170531/da26dfe6ffb9310ca9181dcd5d19dd2b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170531/79c4564599f8304bfdc3ed6ce4498e0c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170531/598f91a6b83370fa03721a40db05d312.jpg

I'd say it's hitting the first cross member after the hoop. The angle of the trailer sitting at the ramp and trailer in a little too deep allowing it to strike. Try at bit of Teflon skid across it maybe. Just a guess as I can't pick anything else unusual with your setup.

I just had a second look at your photo of your hoop and noticed the padding I think you've added. You probably have to do what I did to mine. Roxom.com.au is the place to get it from their in Melbourne but the factory is on the Gold Coast that makes the skids.

It's definitely hitting end of hoop as per the first photo on the black foam it has a horizontal tear from when it comes off the trailer. So thinking of I cut and angle down like your trailer it should get rid of the problem? Thoughts.

Most cat trailers have the curved end bent down quite a bit, do the lower strut kind of things bolt on or welded?

Welded unfortunately which will stuff the Galvanising up but better then stuffing the boat! :o

Have a talk to Belco trailer at Brendale for the trailer mods.

Can't help with the boat.

Hey Skusto , thats unfortunate, unless you start dunking that trailer deeper your always going to have trouble , i would cut off that round bar , attach the same SHS size to the end and have it bent down more as well as tapering it in towards the ends, also place the teflon strips on sides and on TOP as well as to the first 2 or 3 cross members of your tunnel guide to prevent over run scratches. if not teflon skids then perhaps disguise the end guide with polyester rope , works well too.

Thanks, so I already have the car wheels just in the water so your say big I should go even further? This would not be ideal.

If I angle the last bit of hoop right down do you think this would solve it or not really?

Do you know any fibreglass repairers north side of Brisbane?

Have you read through this thread mate? http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/showthread.php/66139-repairing-deep-scratches-in-hull?highlight=hull+repairs
I don't think that those scratches are that deep and would only take a day to fix by yourself.

I had a read but just not confident with doing it my self, I can extend/renovate houses but got no experience with fibreglass so would rather pay someone with the skills.

cant help you with any fibreglass repairers sorry, but i think you might gain if you where to angle the hoop down more. saying that your underside hull is as clean as a whistle, perhaps a one off battle scar perhaps. lm on my second cat trailer now and because of bigger tyre sizes, bigger gauge materials etc, i have to dunk my trailer until both tandems wheels and mudgaurds is under water, where as before i only had to dunk one wheel.

I'd cover the top and sides of your hoop pipe like mine first. If your trailer launch and retrieval is fine now I'd do that first before cutting and welding as it compromises the galvanised finish. The skid material is very smooth and slick.

When I am launching and retrieving that hoop is touching if not slightly submerged under water.

Yeah the hoop is a mile out of the water in launch and retrieve. Going to take to belco tommo morning and see what they say.

Cheers
