Hi,
Im looking for someone who has a Haines Hunter 600R.

I am seriously considering buying one. Ive read all the reviews etc, now Id just like to see one, stand in one.

So does anyone on here have one please. Even better if you live in Brisbane, Gold Coast or Northern NSW areas.

If anyone has any reports, good or bad, post em up.

Cheers

Well, it seems no one has one. And theres no horror stories people are itchin to tell about their cousins mates uncles brother in law who had one, like there would be if I was asking about an Etec!!

Got me stumped why they have such a bad reputation, Ok, so a few went bad at the start but I don't know of any major failures and I do know quite a few people with one.

Whats the problem with Etecs?
Maybe the question should be whats wrong with the fuel we buy these days?

Your right FH things seem to have quietened down on Ausfish. That Fishnet has closed up shop and that other one down south Mr Fisho last time I checked the recent posts almost all were from the owner. I assume Mr fisho is the owner? I know there are more fishing forums but they all seem to be taking a bit of hiding at the moment.

Still no one here has one or knows someone who has one ?

Haines Hunter page uncovered a couple but all in Melbourne. Might just have to go there to test one.

Yep, that's a new one for sale but can guarantee the dealer does not have it in stock, thats the same dealer I want to buy from.

Thanks Shakey, can pretty much tell you I've read every bit of info on the boat available on the internet, many I've read twice.

I got the next size up (650), rode like a pig until I got the motor height right and instsalled trim tabs, now she's a different boat and rides real well, very solid and no surprises, great in a following sea. You could PM Honda900 as he has a more modern version (Not the R) but I think its the same basic hull.

Had the same as Honda900 a 620 pro fish which I think is the same from the gunnels down as the 600r. Excellent riding boat in everything but a dead head on sea. Pretty rocky at rest which I suppose is a trade off and a fairly wet boat but I would say pound for pound one of the best riding boats I've been on. I had tabs from day one but I think Honda900 put his on later so he would be able to speak of the difference it made.

You say 'had'. So why is it had one and not have one?

585R, softer riding with the exact same cockpit space. 600R has a longer cabin.

Depends on your needs. The 585 is a "chop" boat where the 600 is far better offshore.
The 585 has only 2 planing strakes which give less drag so good chop cutting but less lift. The 600/650 has three planing strakes thus a bit more drag into a chop but more lift to keep the hull up into and especially following a swell.

The 600 is also a much heavier built boat being 200kg heavier than the 585.

Had a 600r up until very recently. Absolute weapon offshore. I found it fine in chop and not too bad at anchor. It's one of those boats that if it's feeling a bit bumpy you need to go faster to keep it up high. Trim tabs absolute necessity.

Cheers

Well, increasingly looking like maybe I wont be buying a new boat.
I'm certainly not dropping that much coin on a boat I've not test driven and no dealer can help.
Even Haines Hunter head office are saying wait until May to do it.

Ive asked dealers to find me previous customer but they say they cant. Not sure whats going on.

Surely Im not the only guy who wont spend a small fortune on a boat he hasnt test driven?
Honestly the dealers are treating me like I have 2 heads for saying I want a test drive before buying.

If there were any Haines Hunter 600R or 650R for sale that were less than around 4-5 yrs old, without an Etec, I'd go check them out. But cant find one at the moment.

If anyone has any suggestions as to another boat that's comparable please go ahead.

Can understand your frustration. It's probably a reason why most choose a second hand rig so they can test drive and get a handle on performance and handling etc. I've never bought new for this reason because the coin you save from not buying new gives you plenty in the kitty for tweaking and some extra fruit.

This is true, however it's gotta be a pretty good 2nd hand boat. When they build an indestructible hull, that can never have rot, de-lamination , rust, corrosion or other damage, seen or unseen, 2nd hand boats will be a fantastic option every time.

I'm just very wary of inheriting problems, Id rather get my own problems, then only dealers, manufacturers or me to blame and a warranty to take of any problems.

Plenty of good second hand boats, but if you want new then you get what you get, and that happens to be pretty ordinary service by the sounds of it. What if your new boat has a problem, how accommodating will the new boat parade be at helping?

If you can't get a test drive in a new there are a few listed for sale. It appears your not an etec fan, but at least you will get a good idea on ride and handling. Then if satisfied buy one with motor that suits.

Having been in both 585R and 600R offshore I would still go the 585R all day. The only advantage I give the 600R is it probably tracks better in side on wave/swell conditions. In a race, the 600R would probably win. Just like a Ferrari would beat a Rolls Royce. But in lumpy conditions I like the "Rolls Royce" ride. Personal preference, that's all.

Depends on how each boat is set up, there are many variables not just the hull model, to make an informed statement you would need to ride in several of each model

600R has a longer cabin.

You sure about that? I thought the 'R' models were the runabout with no cabin, just a windscreen and storage space under. The 'C' models are the half cabins with side pockets and v-bunks etc.

You may be thinking of older models called the 600R and C etc. here we're talking about the available today (3month wait on new boat) models.

They have a cabin and stang69 is right, the cabin is longer on the 600R but its also heaps heavier for not much longer.
