View Full Version : Re-registering a boat - where VIN number is illegible

My son wants to reregister his tinnie and has lost all his papers.

Boat still has the rego number on it and unfortunately no rego sticker.

He lives in the Queensland bush and the local Main roads dept won't give him the VIN number , and he is lost as to what to do.

I tried to ring the Transport dept to see if a statutory declaration could be made but , with the flood emergency , there was only a recorded message that no one was available.
Has anyone had a similar situation and/or any suggestions to resolve the matter.

Thanks

Pedro

Pedro, I am sure you can buy a vin plate from QLD Transport and just rivet it on, that
is what I did when I reregisted my boat couple years ago.
Then present the boat /trailer to transport and register it.
Can in Townsville anyhow.
If it was registered in his name they should have a record of it online, just using the boat numbers.

Thanks for that.
Just learnt that after I sent my son a photo of the illegible Vin number, which was shown to Main Roads they issued a new number and it just needs to be stamped on boat.

Triple they had all the records at Main Roads but would not advise the Vin no for some unknown regulation.
The rego had been cancelled and the route you suggested had been tried without luck, because of the cancellation.

Anyway he has to fill out a different form and all will be good.

Thanks to all for your interest and help.
