Hi all,
Could someone tell me whether the damage in the attached photo will need just the Gelcoat/flowcoat re applied, or will some fibrglass need to be laid as well?

It looks deeper than just the gelcoat plus when you grind out the fractured glass it will be deeper again.

No worries Fazz. I had to learn something in the last 45 years in Fibreglass.

If you're not fussed about how it looks, try Techniglue R60. It's a structural adhesive that's submersible and easy to work with.
Your could shallow fill it and the top up with gelcoat, but the gelcoat will never blend into the rest of the boat.

Its an easy repair Fazz, grind it back so its clean (Dremel is perfect for this) and fill with a product designed for the job, like this one...

Cheers guys, will be giving it a crack over the weekend.
Plan is to sand back to firm glass around the dent, lay some CSM, sand to Smooth surface, maybe a couple of coats of Gelcoat, then finish off with flowcoat, sand then polish

Don't bother with the Gelcoat. Just use Flowcoat and sand between coats.

someone might know the exact detail..a boatbuilder showed me a technique of using clear packing tape over the final wet gelcoat smoothed to the final shape...kept the air off as the patch cured and left a hard smooth shiny surface with minimal finishing necessary.saved a lot of time for multiple patching
