Ok time to get another boat seen we haven't had one for a number of years now and have the itch.

We have $30K to spend, has to be glass, prefer 4 stroke but not solid, 17-20ft as can't go too heavy as don't want to upgrade the Commodore, used only in salt, Portland, Narooma & PPB.

Have found 2 am interested in but have never been for a ride in either of them so not sure and still looking.

Savage Surveyor 5.5m - http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/lakes-entrance/motorboats-powerboats/savage-surveyor-5-5/1134529385

If anyone knows either of these boats and could give some advice please it would be appreciated or if you want to suggest something else, please do.

Thanks :)

Thanks shakey55 nice boat but the only thing I question is the size of the cockpit/fishing area. Unless it's the pic but it looks a very small area to fish in, but a nice boat indeed, even if it is over the $30K :)

Just read too - no trailer!

Almost bought a Savage Surveyor but only because I could not fit the same hull the Savage Mako in the garage. I think if you are after fishing room and have the space go a Mako. I am a bit of a Signature man so if you could find a good 575F Haines Signature that may also be a consideration? Brett

I have a smaller version of this, the Seafarer V-Sea and I find there is plenty of cockpit/fishing room in my boat.

Perhaps ask the guys that own these boats (there are plenty on this site) what they think about fishing area.

Good luck

Thanks guys appreciate the replies. I have always been a Mako fan but read a couple of forums where it was written they tend to sit low in the rear, which is no good for what I want. Can anyone confirm this please?

Found this lovely boat but the motor hours boy oh boy - http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/lauderdale/motorboats-powerboats/savage-5-5-mako/1128846016

Keep the suggestions coming guys :)

I've got a Whittley Impala 5.3 with a 90hp mercury 2 stroke which weighs 137kg & goes like a rocket. It's on a Mackay single axle trailer I sold off the older rusted mackay trailer it came with & got a new one. It has the v mesh at the front & the walk along mesh so you don't have to try & balance on strips & crossbars. I looked at a lot of boats similar size & the reason the Whittley took my fancy was that for a boat that size it was the only one with a cabin big enough to sleep in over night. The Haines signature only had a half cabin. We've done many wonderful trips with our Whittley now & love the Whittley club as well. I also upgraded the canopy to a full storm cover which cost me approx $2,800 I think. I bought the boat a 2004 3 years ago for $19,000 from Dolphin marine. Whittleys go the extra mile to give more comfort & features. Mine is like a hybrid cruiser fishing boat. Definitely look at the whittleys. I do recall the salesman saying that it wasn't easy to sell the boat I bought because a lot of people say "not big enough". I do get what he meant but all in all a boat just over 5m is great for good weather boating & I never go out from Mooloolaba unless it's under 15Knots. I've spent a week on mine at Great Keppel (magic place) & a week around the inside of Fraser to name a couple of trips. My advice would be to get something you can lie down in and sleep and maybe get something around the 6m mark. http://www.whittleymarinegroup.com.au/#

Is a trust ol Streaker 5.85 something I should be considering or steer clear of them now considering their age - http://www.boatsales.com.au/boats-for-sale/private/used/SSE-AD-4395888/1994-Streaker-585M-SPORTS-CRUISER or an oldie Yalta craft - http://www.boatsales.com.au/boats-for-sale/private/used/SSE-AD-4286903/1991-YALTA-CRAFT-189-HALF-CAB

I feel like I'm talking to myself here lol and sorry if I I'm being a pain, but yet to find something that grabs me.

Funny I just rang him and asked that exact question and he said that his driveway was unsuitable for a tandem so he had the single made accordingly for the boat. He is the one and only owner, bought it from new.

Am still looking for a boat as not in a hurry so am being fussy.

Have just found a 2010 Tournament 1750 Tournament and looks very clean and at a good price, but I know nothing whatsoever about them.

Can anyone help me out as to their handling capabilities on the water etc as am curious how they ride and at rest please.

Thanks ;)

I've never been out on a tournament boat, but a few months ago while at Moreton Island I ran into a bloke with one. Can't remember the size, but had a really good look over it and a very long chat. They appear to be a very nice unit - well made. The owner was very impressed with its ride and capabilities.

If I was up for a new boat they would be on the list to look closer at.

I'm a Seafarer man but would have a look at these if I couldn't find a Seafarer.

Good luck hunting, but your doing the right thing by taking your time waiting for the RIGHT one.

I have a 2004 1750 Tournament with a 100hp Yamaha 4str. I have a mate who has a Seafarer Viking and he commented how similar the 2 boats are. The ride is good with good stability at rest. Alright in the bay until it gets over a metre of chop, it handles it but gets a bit bangy (I think any 17 1/2ft boat would have the same problem). I have no qualms taking it out deep dropping off Moreton or fishing out of 1770 in the Bunker Group. Mine has a 90lt underfloor fuel tank and I have a range of about 180klm. Crusing speed at 4300rpm is 23mph. I am selling mine to downgrade to a tinny for $20k to give you some sort of indicator of price (3yr trailer, new GME VHF radio, Garmin 70DV sounder/GPS, Hummingbird 785c2 GPS).
