Degreasing outboards

Picking up on the recent topic of what product to spray your outboard with, I was wondering if there are any issues with using degreasers to clean the outboard ie removing the old lanolin and gunk?

With a light spray can't see a problem, beneficial to get rid of any salt build up.after just give it a light spray of lanolin and re- grease the linkages. Got a mate who does this annually and swears by it.

Dont forget to give the motor cowling a good hose out as you tend to sit it on the grass and overlook. It can get a bit salty in there as well and the metal hatch mechanisms can suffer. Some lanolin spray will keep them happy. The rubber seal on the cowl, open the two halves and give that a gentle wipe out with a damp cloth as well.
