View Full Version : Online Outboards Scam Warning

Hi all,

I was poking around the web looking for my next set of outboards when I came across this site:

https://www.outboardmarine.net.au/

The prices nearly sucked me in until I decided to contact them with a few questions. Phone re-directs to some dodgy message, and email response is very light on detail.

Looking further, there's no ABN listed. I checked on all the awards they have listed and none of them check out. The shopfront addresses listed are vague.

Would love to know if anyone has successfully used them, but looks like a scam to me.

Cheers,

Wayne.

Ged rid of the 's' in https and it will work.

Which is dodgy in itself because the site claims to be comodo secured, which is when you use https. And if you were buying online, you'd want the site to be secured!

since they claim to be local in the location, just do pickups :)

Just a note for everyone, you can perform a 'Whois' lookup for every domain name in the Internet. Google 'dns Whois lookup', punch in the domain name and the registrant is whom your looking for, take the registrant name and again Google, if there is any dodgy feedback Google will tell you based on results :-)

In the example above the registrant was 'A Pridmore....' And this was googled to confirm ABN details

I have checked the ssl certificate, see below, certificate was created on 19th October, this could just be a renewal or a new site, I'll let you judge for yourself, the site is properly secured from a ssl side. this does not constitute that's it legitimate, as this is a public forum I'll keep my opinion to myself
