Hi all I have been on this forum for a while now and seen quite a few fishing reports and trips being planned and general good conversations but in the last year there has been nothing really posted the odd trip that's it
something must have happened at the M&G but no reports today's weather perfect not a single report ...

the he only reason I have not posted is due to no time on the water over tax time but the amount of people on this site why is there no reports ? I am considering not renewing my membership

has anybody got any answers?

cheers scott concerned ausfisher

I used to be a prolific poster however I don't report so much now as there are only so many times you can read

flathead
gulp
nanofil
jighead
etc

when something a bit different is happening I report.

must admit, thre are a lot less reports on Ausfish these days

Hmmm raincheck??

Anyway,

Maybe life has just been in the way of fishing - certainly has been for me. I don't think you can point the proverbial finger at any M&G. The lack of funding, social media, AFL and NRL grand finals, finding time and just better things to do can play a part in no reports on AF.

Social media e.g. Facebook etc seems to have taken over as easier to post pics etc. Spent the last week at Fraser, plenty of weed around and very few fish, even Fisheries went home early from their stint as not enough fish caught to measure.
But if you want advice whether it be fishing, boating, 4wd etc this is still the place to go to.

Actually you might be onto something dignity, how easy is it to
post a pic on fb compared to the convoluted process here?

Its a problem not unique to this site and in fact seems to be a common trait with almost every site I am a member of.

Social media is perhaps the biggest issue in my mind, perhaps simply for the reason Crunchy has signalled.

Other reasons could be that regularly successful anglers get known from their posts & then become targets for the followers looking for easy pickings rather than working on finding their own drops. Perhaps another is that plenty of people read the report but dont take the time to acknowledge the author. This is perhaps not so much the case here as its simple to simply like or thank the author with the click of a button. This is not the case with some others.

Personally, I find this site useful for technical talk on boats, motors, n electronics. Because the site has a very small SA contingent, I have never added a report here. Just figured that you East Coast folk wouldn't be interested in what us Croweaters get up to. The other reason, is that I dont believe in doing a report & then posting it on EVERY site I am a member of. So i tend to post them only to the sites that they would appeal to, ie, kayak trips to kayak forumns, Local trips to the local sites.

Generally speaking, Ausfish is not just about fishing reports. There are many forums contained within the site and the most popular is Boating. Certainly the fishing reports have dropped off and there are many reasons and as eluded to, other social media influences are at hand. FYI.. Ausfish has a Facebook page.. so does the Agnes Water / 1770 Ausfish M & G.

With access to who visits our site and numbers, it is still clear this remains the number 1 website for recreational anglers in Australia. We still account for thousands of visits per day and the vast majority are looking / reading. Not all folks that visit us are members.

It is the members that make the site what it is...... and in addition to those members are the friendships that are formed via interaction over the web or face to face meetings for fishing trips, 4 x 4 trips, rod building, jet skiing and more. This is where you'll find the greatest value in your Ausfish membership.

I think the C&R mob got a bit righteous a few years gone by and a lot of people just didn't really see the point of putting themselves in the firing line of someone else's belief/s ..... I still catch plenty but rarely post pic's now days.

That's the thing I enjoyed the reports every week as it would fire me up for my next outing .
you just don't see much fishing oriented talk not even tackle talk. It all boats and tow vehicles which is very usefull
but the site is called ausfish ..that's only my opinion I no personally have dropped the ball of late but that's through lack of actuall fishing so next outing I'll make sure I post

... has anybody got any answers? ...It's the Internet Scott, everyone has an answer, and they're all always right ... [emoji1]

As many have eluded to, there are probably many reasons and/or combinations of reasons, and most likely each person that doesn't post so much/at all anymore has slightly different reasons to the next.

Me, I have a 100% record for posting reports over the last few years, but that's easy when you hardly get out fishing these days. ☹️

Unfortunately there will be no 1770 report from me this Sept/Oct, but with a bit of luck we may see a few from Short Fuse and Moonlighter etc, as all the PBA boys & girls are up at 1770 this week. Seen a few pics but nothing special just yet. Most are out on an overnighter tonight, so it is very quiet on the texting front.

Hi Brendon. I am afraid that we will have to rely on Grant (Moonlighter) to supply some pics from this years PBA week at 1770. I never took the camera out of the case as we did not catch any newsworthy fish. Did not put a legal red or trout in the boat this year despite getting out 3 times. Even with 3 day trips we did not fill our coral reef fish bag limit - fell short by 2 fish.

First 2 trips were plagued by the dreaded north westerlies and the fishing (for us at least) was tough. At least the fish cooperated a bit better on Thursday and we managed to put a good catch together, and ended up with 20 fish in the ice box. We had a good run back to Brisbane this morning. I happy to report that we will be eating some prime reef fish fillets over the coming weeks.

cheers

That's not good Jeff, but at least you got a few. Besides, there is always next time ... which for you is more than most of us [emoji1][emoji1].

My freezer has been empty of reef fish for too long, so have mentally penciled in a L/weekend raid down the track. Next year's official trip will be just far too long a wait.

As usual the PBA 1770 trip was a great week. This year we had about 22 boats along.

Great company and an enjoyable stay - great gang of people.

As Jeff said the weather was less than ideal, and we found that fish numbers were well down on what we caught last year. It was hard work.

We were lucky and got the best red of the trip, this time my skipper Rod was the one, with a 14.5kg model giving him a decent workout.

We were unlucky in that we could have had 2 that size- Rod had his fish 2/3 to the boat and I had put my Terez in the rod holder while I readied the landing net. 30 seconds later my rod arcs over and a big fish takes 30m of line against the 20kg of drag on the big Saragossa reel. Wrestled the rod out but quickly realised the fish had taken the line across Rod's line, so opened the bail arm and fee-spooled so we could give priority to getting the first fish on board.

Netted his fish, untangled my line where it had gone across, and then resumed the fight with my fish, which went every bit as hard as the first one. Had it 3/4 way to the boat and it took a lunge and the leader parted- was roughed up so I suspect the fish had found some reef when I freespooled it. Bugger!

On Thursday we headed out early on a forecast 10-15kn SW-SE forecast that was supposed to drop out and turn NE after lunch. Well, that 10-15 was really 20-25 so we had a long bouncy trip out to Fitzroy with strong wind and swells on our starboard aft quarter. There were some BIG trenches between them too, but once we had the big Striper trimmed right we were making reasonable speed.

But conditions outside Fitzroy were very uncomfortable with waves breaking into the transom and with the fish not cooperating we went and hid on the leeward side of Boult reef and fished the shallows for some redthroats and budgies. Not much action though. Thankfully the wind started to drop off so we headed west of Boult to the paddock area and got a few fish, Maori cod and I picked up one just legal Red and then a nice 9kg model, which helped make the esky half-respectable in quality, if not quantity.

Rod had some fun on a chunky Red Bass which when we first saw it coming up looked like an XOS size trout. Rats again!

If a fish took 30m of line at 20kg of drag, it wasnt a red so dont worry!

Thanks for that thought, but Ive caught enough reds to know when I have one on the line. It was a red, the 14.5kg model took line and fought the same.

No I don't agree there, Jeff. There was always some banter here on AF, and it was part of the value of this forum. And that is coming from someone who has had the pleasure of meeting Moonlighter and both of the Unicorns in person. In fact I go on an annual holiday with one of them.
Fact is, I would take any of those fellas' advice on fishing, and Thank them for it. And I met them all thru Ausfish.
I could mention how a bunch of very active contributing members left for another forum some 3 years ago, but that is only part of the story.
Its a pity that the owner of Ausfish now lives overseas, and there have been almost zero M&G's for the last 3 years.
It would help a lot if some of the veteran members were inspired to return and help. And real events were planned instead of just keyboard stuff.
Cheers, Pauly

It was only 4 weeks ago that I attended one Paul....enjoyed it a great deal, I do hope they continue with Phill stepping down as key organiser though.

Last M&G I tried to organise I was the only one who turned up LOL, so not really my forte but happy to help.

I am happy to keep posting fishing reports. Not every time I go and catch fish as it can get a bit repetitive. There are a couple of spots that I don't post about, not because they are the best, but because the area to fish is very small (e.g. 10 metres)!

My reason for posting is that many anglers believe that it is hard (or impossible) to catch fish off the bank consistently in Moreton Bay, but that is incorrect as my reports, pics and videos show. I know I have positively influenced a few peoples fishing patterns and have contributed in a small way to them catching fish (or gathering bait).

I've got no problem with some friendly banter between members especially who know each other - heck you should see what goes on over in the PBA members forum!

Good humoured and they know to keep the content and language acceptable without needing to be moderated.

As you say it adds character to the forum.

Mojoes and back in black et al are good examples. I use the term "good" loosely, of course ;)

Btw when we were coming back into the creek at 1770 on Tuesday last week, a glass boat about 19ft long totally ignored the 6knot zone and caught up with us at the yacht anchoring areas. Slowed down behind us ta that point.
