Hi all,

I just tested a new (to me) 5.2 KC. Actually it is a 2000 Series KC made in USA. I am located in Panama, Central America. She came with 115 2 strokes. One was dead so I pulled them both out.

Several people have posted here good results with either F70 or F60 high thrust Yamahas. I happened to have twin F70's on my RIB and decided to swap em over and see how she goes.

Regarding performance she does OK, suits my needs. What has me really worried is that the powerheads sit way to low. The gasket line on the cowling is almost touching the water at 11-13 knots. It gets a little better at cruising speeds but still to low for my taste.

Around here the F60 or F70 are only available in L (20-21") size shafts.

Is this a common issue with these boats?

Thanks!

Tito

Yes, you should go with 25" legs.

Also the few American kc I've seen have unusually small pods. Smaller than the original KC ones here.
I had the latest model 5.2 (1999) with f60's and it had the larger pods for 25inch legs. Even then the back of the boat is wet so higher the better

Are the F60's or F70's available in XL=25" legs?

I checked the Yamaha Australia website and they do offer them in both L=20" and XL=25" configurations. Only available in L over here.

The picture shows the XL 115's that I pulled with a little jack plate bracket which I pulled as well. the F70's were tested attached directly to the aluminum pods on the second hole top to bottom. Had ventilation issues with the props and the powerheads were brushing the water line.

Thanks for the help guys
