I'm swapping fuel tank fittings from a Suzuki fitting to a Yamaha one. Both seem to fit OK and both look like they had some kind of thread tape on them. Can anyone tell me if it's just regular plumber's tape or something "special".

I don't like to use thread tape as it goes soft in petrol, I use Loctite 567

I used std PTFE tape on my fittings with no ill effect.

I use Stag Jointing Paste.

Thanks. I don't have any Stag but I do have Loctite so I'll try that. The ones that I removed had been there for "yonks" with their thread so maybe it's overkill but best to be safe.

Right or wrong, I have found that good fittings don't leak, but the cheap aftermarket ones require some sort of tape/goo.

I'm using genuine.

I've learnt something today. Just like "oils aint oils", "Loctite aint Loctite". Now I know why Spaniard King put the numbers in. Of course, the Loctite in the shed wasn't 567 and Fun Things didn't have any so I'll cast my net wider!
