Ron marks, a name known in the watersports world for over 45 years has released its first non sporting marine .....gizmo... it should be said:P
The Ron marks Freewheeling hand operated outboard is what the box suggests. a hand operated propeller designed to push small watercraft in both forwards AND! reverse!

Ron marks says it is suitable for any small craft up to 4.50 metres long such as a tender, dinghy, inflatable or tinnie. It is aimed at boaters who want a simple, environmentally-friendly propulsion system which requires no fuel, no charging and produces no pollutants.

Already Duck hunters in New Zealand, Canada, The UK and the US have expressed a strong interest in its ultra silent running.

“Free Wheeling” is ingenious in its design, yet is very practical and easy to use. It has a unique 3:1 gear ratio which makes it simple and easy to propel in either a forward or reverse direction with just the turn of a handle.” says Ron Marks.

A last minute launch will see the unique alternative propulsion device ..........."the propeller on the end of a piece of pipe"......... released at this years Sanctuary cover boat show. http://www.moosemarine.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/hi_res_image7_small-200x300.jpg

There is another similar human powered device called the oar.

Jokes aside I reckon that is a doozy of an invention- very clever and can see it selling a heap.

Do they make a counter rotating model so you can run twins without having to work out the "pat head rub tummy". 4.5 metres hey ....... wouldn't want too much in the way of breeze.

Bit hard to say whether it would be better than oars, I guess being geared it might be.

Well it could be a bit of fun, If i had kids then a small tinny and one of these would tire the little buggers out quick enough.

Figuring out a way to attach bike pedals to it would give it a bit more performance and range......

Too right and we could leave our boats all over the place so no one could get past without tripping over one of them.

<<<<<< waits for the first thread with photos of this gizmo showing the keel line wondering if the owner needs to "raise it one hole".

then for Kerry to interject when someone suggests they fit a foil on it for better performance.

there was a brief trial of a model with 2 mice on a spin wheel attached to the shaft ,however there were RSPCA issues that could not be overcome.
