Interesting

3 outboards

only two throttles, only 2 tachometer needles showing on display.

anyone explain?

I was thinking the same thing.

One digital tacho with three digital needles on it. Drive by wire throttles, two motors connected to the same throttle, probably the two that rotate normally, the counter rotating one would have it's own. Possibly a little balance slide switch somewhere to match them up if they go out.

With smart computerised control they should never get out. Ultimately these days you can monitor you entire spread of however many engines through one gauge/display as it's all just data on a bus. As Dale posted - I suspect the two outside engines (the ones used for close quarters manouvering - one of which you would expect to be counter rotating ) would have the independent throttles. The centre engine probably only has a synchronise button to engage it.

They sound unbeliavable
would add 6 more balls to my manhood

saying that, am I the only one bit disappointed with the top speed?
Looked like he was going to top out at 75mph

My 35 years old 20ft Caribbean makes nearly 60mph with 200hp and this thing has close to 1700hp even though may be a 30ft.
Was expecting something close to 100mph mark

Some compensation going on there I think :)

Also amusing the "Ausfish rip off MY image" logo attachment makes for apt censorship :-X ;D

... My 35 years old 20ft Caribbean makes nearly 60mph with 200hp... That is 52kn or 96kmh!

That is pretty darn quick PROS, for an old Carrib 20 footer, as the old boats were made pretty heavy.

Personally I never see the point of a big 'fishing boat' with 3 or 4 big heavy O/B's hanging way off the back. Give me a couple of nice T/D I/O's or maybe even the new IPS system in big boats. Balance and sea keeping ability would be so much better.

Just MHO though.

What's more, getting angry fish round one or two OB's is bad enough, can't imagine 3 or 4!

Cheers
Brendon

On couple of occasions I chickened out 85kmh with throttle left. Sounds more like hammer hitting the outer skin at that speed.
Confident I can hit 90kph if not a tad under.
Anything above is my inner fisherman talking.
On calm seas 3000 cruise rpm sees 52kph
Not a real speed fan, will take a video next time.

Boat is old Caribbean with raised roof and Yamaha 200HPDI VMAX

It's a 42 footer, massive boat. 23,000 pounds, or 10,000kg. Yep it weighs ten tonne with 4 x 350 yammies.

Well quick then. Sounds like you got a good engine. Victory with a 200HO in my shed and best I've seen out of it is 85kph (was in full battle dress not that that would matter much though). What pitch prop and WOT rpm you getting??

As Scotty mentioned, you must have a very strong donk there, (and a very slippery boat) as that is very quick for a 20' and SOG.

At these speeds/conditions the speed/power relationship follows the 'square rule'... in theory. In Scotty's case, let's assume the HP output is exactly 200hp. If he wanted to increase his top speed by 10% (85 x 1.10 = 93.5kmh = 58.4mph), he would need 200 x (1.1)^2 = 242hp (all things being equal).

Don't know what the EPA tested output is for the 200HO, but it supposedly is much better than 200, hence the real calc above would mean even greater HP would be required.
Cheers

Sounds spot on Brendan. From memory that's about what the test boat did with a 250 when they first reviewed the vic6

hmmm, I better take a step back as it sounds like I am talking up a bit.
Will do a test run and record the findings properly.

Scottar, prop is 21-M.
I think it is cupped from previous owner.
I bought the outboard from Sydney when it had about 140hrs, owner was racing it.

Brendan I know the feeling, water slushing noise disappears and feels like continuous hammering sound over relatively flat water.

Not sure about the WOT rpm, can only speculate it, seen 5400rpm quickly before thinking thats more than enough stress I can handle.
Had the read out of engine hours from last service, looks like previuos owner spent 9 hrs 5-6000rpm range and 1 hr over 6000rpm.

The plot thickens. She may well be punching above sticker weight if it's been tinkered with for racing.
