Hello! Just information/experience of someone who has owned a 5m reef runner sailfish and has repowered it. Or even the 5.5 shelf runner just for comparison? Mine is a 2000 model 5m reef runner with the original twin Johnson 60's on it. They go really well don't get me wrong but after having a few late model four strokes on previous boats I do notice the noise, exhaust fumes and bad fuel economy. Im looking at either repowering it with the latest F60 or F70 Yammy's. Someone did tell me that the max Hp on these boats was 60. Does anyone know someone who has done this? Long shaft or ultra longs? It has the standard 20 inch legs on it at the moment but when you start going through a bit of rough sea it sounds like the props are cavitating but boat isn't loosing any speed. Is this ventilation? Maybe prop pitch too and it has those aquaplane things on the cavitation plates. Don't know maybe it a little cat thing??

Also any other information about this Sailfish series would be appreciated. So far I'm impressed with her for her size, handles really well and coming from only mono's and big cats I'm still only learning how to drive it.

Regards

John

I had a 5.5 with twin 70 2 smokes and it was a great boat. The new owner has repowered it with f70 and loves it. I would go the 70 or 60 yammies.

Cheers Perko. Im thinking the F60 high thrusts should be more than enough if he likes the 70's on his. The 5.5 would of been even better than mine but ah well I'm still happy with it.

I reckon the 60's would
be sweet too.

Delivered this yesterday afternoon, a shelfrunner with 2 new 100 HP's it did 74klm/hr at 6100 rpm 3 up full of fuel

Don't discount the 60HP Honda it pushes above its weight and now with a 7 year warranty, Honda also has a special on the 60 $1000 off :)
