Hey guys iv got a 23 huntsman with a pod and a 225 four stroke on it.
Im looking for a new trailer for it and looking for any info on roughly what they weigh

If you've got one or had one even in original configuration that was on a trailer and you've got the info would be great if you could let us know

thanks
Seano

Seano, the best way to get the actual weight of your boat/motor/trailer in this case is to tow your boat to a weighbridge and weigh it.

Most Council rubbish tips will let you run over the weighbridge without charge of you don't want a certificate. Just take the car off the end with the trailer still on the bridge. It only takes a few minutes and removes the guesswork.

Thanks mate but I'm still looking for a trailer to buy and need to know roughly what the boat weighs so I don't buy a trailer that's to light for it

Thanks again

What model 23, F/b, full cabin or r/a Seano?

I daresay you'll need a breakaway if that's the reason your asking

I know a guy has one in pretty standard condition, and it is over 3T without personal gear and equipment.

That would be boat itself. From memory weight range for models started at around 3t for r/a, and went up form there, to around 3.5 for dual helm F/b, boat + motor only, maybe a tad more - memory has faded. This was with typ petrol Merc. I/O, so take a bit off for 225 O/B.

Yes, you are waaay past the 'breakaway' trailer question. Depending on your model, and type of trailer as well - alloy or HDG, you will need a 4 - 4.5t ATM trailer.

At 23', it might only be 6" longer than a typical current 6.85 trailerable beam "whatever", like I have, but it has 9'2" beam (I think, again memory fading), steep deadrise, plenty of glass, heavily built furniture/internal moulds, let alone and 'mods' it might have seen over the years = very heavy!

Can't find my copy of Jeff Webster's book, this may have better figures than my 'thinks'.

A 25 flybridge Bertram with twin 4 cylinders weighs 2550kg (nominal) - boat only. That's 3m beam. The 23 Huntsman is narrower ( but not much) at 9'6". They were a well built boat and typically single engine config. I think I have a Glass's guide here somewhere that shows the Huntsman 23 flybridge as about 1400kg. I would think if you used 2 ton as a safe weight you would be well covered (plus trailer which would go about 800kg).

I'm thinking it will be around 2.2 - 2.5T it only has a lounge on one side and the captains chair and a custom hard too instead of the full glass cabin.
Towing it with a ranger. Have towed it on a mates trailer and goes good.
I know there's a lot of glass in them but I'm after some hard facts of if you have one and it's written on the trailer rego. or you have had it weighed.

Thanks for your responces

If you are towing with a Ranger, get a trailer rated at max tow capacity - 3500kg. That way you should have no issues with adding a bit of gear if you are doing a trip away somewhere. Your "average" glass 20 footer weighs in at roughly 2 tonnes on a steel trailer so I couldn't see a 23 footer of that sort of vintage going much less than 2300 - 2500 dry ( as an example the Carribean 23 footer is about 500 kilo heavier than my Victory) . Other than that put it on your mates trailer and get it weighed

There is a 24 Huntsman just come on boatpoint has a pod with 225 Merc outboard on a trailer at coomera Qld advert says 2,000Kg dry weight, may be worth giving the ad a call to compare

Mate has a Seaswirl Striper 2301 W/A that is actually 24' LOA. Has a 300 Suzuki on the back now, but when weighed, it had a 250 HPDI Yamaha. It sits on an alloy trailer with torsion axles and with 2/3 fuel (it holds 500 litres) and no water in the tanks, weighed just over 3100kgs for the BMT combo.

I think your boat will be heavier built than the Striper. You will want a trailer rated to at least 3500kgs. At least!

An old mag I have says the V23 Sedan/Flybridge weighs 1760KG and the V23 Flybridge Sports Fisherman weighs 1500KG

Did it say if those weights were bare hull, or dry finished hull weights, excluding motor & ancillary equipment BBG? It seems they are lighter than I remember them to be... not that my memory has been too good of late at times :) . Then again, even some of today's boatbuilders still find it hard to get their boat weights accurate!

I like Scotty's idea; borrow your mates trailer and grab your boat and go weigh it. Then weigh the empty trailer before giving it back (don't trust the weight stamped on the plate). That's the only way to be 100% sure (and be legal).
