Wow! I'd heard they were going to carry out maintenance, but not to that extreme!
I have some of the best memories snorkling with my kids at those wrecks and washing down a few ales at sunset whilst anchored for the night.
Shame.....

I would say that has made them a lot more dangerous than they ever were before ? cut down to the water line ?

Bloody nanny state!

I think they intentionally kept it out of the mainstream news!

what are they going to do to provide another decent anchorage for boaties on the west side of Moreton?

cheers

If tourism QLD and or the local government (or whoever it is who looks after this s**t) were smart they would give boaties far more facilities to stay overnight (safe anchorages), decent facilities and more wrecks to dive/snorkel/swim/kayak/fish around (like the HMAS Brisbane). I'm not saying go over the top and 'commercialise' the place cause we also like it how it is, but a few things such as permanent anchor bouys (at Moreton island resort) that you could rented for an overnight stay wouldn't go a stray either. An example of going over the top is adding pontoons to every boat ramp in Brisbane (it feels like) which actually reduces the number of lanes available and seems to attract morons to loiter around before and after there day on the water. Clearly the twat who made that decision doesn't have a trailer boat.... or a boat at all...
I just don't understand why the government continues to go against the general publics opinion / ignoring what we want which in general seems to be the better idea or option.
I'm angry now.....
Better go fishing.....

Oh and I hate the government doesn't matter which party. The way I see it, is there is us and there is them.
Them screwing us and us just putting up with it. Look at this GST crap about to happen....

S'pose they'll want to drain the bay next so people don't drown in it.

Guess we can thank all those people who think that every misfortune which happens to them, is never an issue of personal responsibility nor part of life, but rather, always someone else's fault. Further, that they are entitled to compensation.

Thanks for nothing. Blood suckers and bureaucrats - it's an evil, dangerous and self perpetuating existence.

Bring on the revolution.

So they didn't just cut the high towers off that could possibly fall they even cut the exposed hulls down to the water line!! What monkey decided this and what monkey never questioned it when work started?

Whoever made the decision probably originally came from mining management position. You can never be to safe and god whatever you do don't let the public think for themselves or take any responsibility for there own actions. No wonder i have never voted.

I was there last Sunday, barge was working which was one of their last days.

Frankly, it certainly doesn't look like what it used to be however I don't see much to complain about.
Wreck site is a lot larger now since they dropped the chopped parts back in to the water. Still acts as a great wave breaker and protected anchorage.

I have seen on multiple occasions many young kids climbing upto the tallest ships and diving down on to shallow water, most peer pressured by their friends.
Some ships leaned a fair bit over years.
It was only a matter of time before bad things happen.

I don't see why council would want to spend all that money if there wasnt a major concern over the wreck site

I would love to see few more ships dropped to extend the wreck site over the coming years

Thanks for the pics koastal, not as brutal as I first feared but it still seems quite unnecessary nanny state B/S just because a few idiots cannot be trusted to be sensible.

If they have dropped the lumps back in to the water, I don't have an issue with it either, the bits above the water don't as a home for fish!

Yes its made more reef but to me its taken away the part of the attraction of the historic wreaks, now there just rusty hulls.

I often anchor up right where the micat comes in, there is a wake but not too bad. Small tininies Rock and roll when a turtle sneezes
