Pax on board advice needed

My compliance label says my boat can take 6 people. Do children count as one pax? I seem to recall reading somewhere that children were counted as a half. This would make sense when the weight max is considered. Anyone know if children are a full passenger or half?

Not sure if things have changed, but it used to be;
Infants < 2 counted as zero people.
Children over 2 but < 12 were counted as 1/2 a person. And 'a person' was assumed to weigh 75kg.
The age contribution rule was always hard to find.

Just checked msq website.
Don't count children under one. Children 2-12 count as a half. This is in smooth water. Numbers must be reduced in partially smooth or open waters. This is for vessels under six meters

That may well be the case, but it shouldn't be taken at all lightly. Under international maritime laws that are called up in each States legislation, we all have what's called a general safety obligation.

This means, amongst other things like doing everything possible to avoid a collision even if you are in the right, that when the excretia hits the wind oscillating advice, and you have in excess of the recommended number on board and someone gets hurt or worse, YOU will have the obligation of proving why the excess number of people was safe. And it will not be easy, you will be right in the firing line.

Bottom line: ignoring or flaunting the recommended capacity is not recommended at all, ever.

Moonlighter that applies no matter whether how many are aboard. Hopefully you dont think that if your vessel rolls over in a rough sea and you are within that number, that you are automatically exonerated??
