Hi,
Mate just told me he was talking to a marine mechanic wo stated quite plainly that the current 115 4st yammy is a piece of shit......reckoned they have changed the pistons to a casting and other parts as well. He said it would be the last motor on the market he would buy.
He also said the 2015 model will not be relased until spring this yr.

Anyone got anything contrary to this?

Since when were pistons not castings, machined to size? it's not like a 1.7 litre DOHC inline four only putting out about 115hp @ 6000rpm is a highly stressed engine anyway, in the bigger world of engines.

Perhaps the old pistons where forged, most high output for race like size engines will run these, outboards are constant throttle application of an engine as opposed to say a sprint car or dirtbike engine....so I dunno but forged once warm are to my understanding the preferred piston if one is building a best case high performance engine with their own money and time..

perhaps yamaha has gone with specially coated cast pistons to help give a more robust service than they might otherwise.
