G'day Everyone,

I received this notification today regarding dredging in Scarborough Harbour.
Works apparently started on the 28th April and will go for 16 weeks, including Saturdays, during daylight hours.
Note the requirement to contact the dredge on VHF 12 when passing.

Cheers

Pete

Very important, especially whilst the "Ken Harvey" is operating to contact the her so the wires can be lowered. Obey the 6kt speed limit as the lads get a bit annoyed when someone blasts past at 20+Kts with the wires still tight...... Manned 24hrs for the duration with ship keep on-board at all times. If anyone has questions I'll try to answer them. Jim

Is the radio contact is only required for large vessels using the channel ?
6 kn applies to all, obviously.

Yes applies to all vessels passing. Anchor wires will be lowered to allow you to pass safely. She is moved frequently as the dredging progresses and anchors moved accordingly. At times she will be in the middle of the channel so keep an eye out for the day shapes. Pass on the side of the double diamond shape never on the double ball shape. At night pass on the double green lights high on the mast. Dredging is only restoring to original depth not going any deeper. Jim

On weekends the anchor wires that directly effect the main channel will be lowered to the bottom for the duration. 6Kt limit still applies. Calling the Ship Keep will confirm safe to pass. At times during bad weather the anchor buoys can slip through the securing rope and may cause a hazard to navigation if severe enough, in this case the shipkeep will let you know as all these things are monitored.

Just be alert and keep a good lookout while passing.
