Hi all,

Just picked up my new podded 560 sharkcat!.(very happy with it) Bloke i bought it off was a great guy and its been done up very nicely.

I gotta say after crawling all over it. I think the Sharkcat/noosacats are a much better built boat than Kevlacats. My old 5.2 kevlacat had no where near as much subfloor structure as this Sharkcat does.twice as many bulkheads/beams and twice as thick.

Ive had a set of f115 yammies bolted on. Im doing the fitup and adjustments myself.

Few questions,
- Where would the Cav plate normally sit against the hull? Bottom of pods? this is where the old motors were. But the new 115's have a much larger gearbox/prop than the f70's that were on it.

I wouldnt imagine they'd be setup from bottom of the Hull? that seems very low to me.

Also, What about toe in/out the motors? ive had minimal experience with this. Is it worth it? or necessary? if so how much do you go? id imagine a little bit of Toe in would be a good thing.Would that give it more bow lift?

Also the f115 are off a kevlacat and have hydrofoils attached. whats the consensus on hydrofoils on cats?

Cheers

Cav plates are set up from the bottom of the hull and slowly raised as the pod gets bigger 9further from the transom. For most powercats without pods you can set the cav plate about 25mm above the keel. ball park would be to add another 20mm for every 100mm of separation from the transom. So if you pods are 400mm from the transom start with your cav plate about 25+4x20mm = 105mm above the keel. Actual numbers will vary but that should be close.

Get your motors as close to parallel as possible but if in doubt make them toe in. General advice is to aim for 1 or 2mm toe in. That way you'll end up somewhere between 0 and 4mm toe in. I'd suggest removing the foils for now you shouldn't need them.

The pods will have a kind of turned down lip on the rear bottom edge, the cav plate should be close to level with that, and fine tune from there, depending on motors and props, sometimes the motors can be run quite high.

Thanks Chris and Noel much appreciated. I have the motors almost level with the pods. The 70's were about 10mm below the pod.

ill test run it and see how it goes.

here's a few photos. Some from before with the 70's on and then a couple of dodgy shots with the 115's on.its the only photos I have so far..Was almost heart breaking unbolt ing the 70's. If the had a 9 instead of a 7 on them I would have been a happy Man. Beggars can't be choosers so I've got 115's now:) hope she floats..

On another note,

for or those of you who run alko trailer suspension, here's a warning.. See pics below.

towing the boat from Brissy to mackay after picking it up. This happened about 300km in.
im not having a shot at the previous owner here as he was a great bloke and would have had no way of knowing what damage was hiding underneath. I'm posting this as a warning for others in the hope they don't get caught out like we did. Front and back axle looked the same, both fronts axles collapsed, had the front wheels pointing in 30 degrees for half the trip..lol drove remainder of trip on back axles which seemed fine. Both sides of front axles basically fell out!

ill let the photos tell more.

Did do some extreme bush mechanics to get it to a trailer shop. Sorry if we pissed anyone off on the highway

Get those motors up as high as you can is my advice. Shel be down in the bum a bit so get them up. 75-100mm above bottom of hull is good. You blokes dont muck around.
I heard about the axle this morn from Faz. Sorry to hear that. Especially after I told you not to worry about them!! My kc ones were more rusted than those and Alko assured me that the the metal is so thick dont worry about replacing them. You proved them wrong! I cant see the pics mate. Toe in toe out isnt that important. I think we set our last Sharkcat up at around 10mm toe out. Cheers

Thanks deano,
i have the motors as high as they can go.test run in a few weeks. Can't wait.!

yeah the stub axles in the front basically disintegrated. Nothing left of it all. Completely rusted away. We had a 2.5t ratchet strap to hold the front axles in. This lasted to rocky, when we took the ratchet off the front right wheel fell out..lol, front left wasn't much better.
Its impossible to tell how good or bad those alko' are as its all hidden internally. As I said the back axle held up great after the front collapsed. Back axles were basically running with entire weight of boat for half the trip to rocky no issues.

Huge thankyou to Lacey's trailers in Rockhampton! Those guys worked thier rings off and were super helpful in getting a whole new set of springs and axles in an afternoon. Thanks heaps guys.
