Hello All,
I have just replaced the tyre on my trailer spare.
To my surprise the spare wheel uses Holden bearings and the road axle has Ford bearings.
Not very useful at all!
Have you tested your spare to make sure that it fits?
I will investigate getting a Ford stub to mount the spare with the correct bearings.
I wonder how many trailers are out there with an incompatible spare.

A similar thing happened to my dad, he was driving around for years with a spare that didnt fit.

Heard a similar story recently with a large Mackay trailer, an owner who had for ten years carried a spare hub around tried to fit it, wrong stud pattern, then after several "months" of waiting, apparently not much goes on at this factory over or around the Christmas period, they finally sent out a new "custom" made version, you guessed it........wrong pattern again!

Go buy a universal rim they fit both Holden and Ford stud patterns. KP

Hello KP,

I have not made myself clear.
These are 10 inch wheels with no studs, you remove the split pin and the castellated nut to get the wheel on and off.
That is why the bearings are so important.
It is a good system, no studs/nuts to go rusty, lowers the trailer and plenty good enough for 100 kph on a light (750kg) total load.
I have towed 800kms in one day in hot weather with no problems.

That is certainly not a good system, but that said, it's what you have, so unless you want to convert to a good/standard setup, then you just have to live with it.

Your post made me have a look at mine (I already know its fits just fine), but it only had 20lb of air in it -
