Hello All,

My trailer spare has burst, apparently from old-age, never used.

Where to buy a new 10 inch tyre?
Gold Coast.

My mains are Delityre U.Light Truck 5.10 6ply.
They are about 6 years old and look OK.

Difficult to do web search to get load/speed ratings etc.

Any help is appreciated.

Just go to a local tyre store, most boat places will be able to get them too.

Any boat trailer tyres older than 5 years must be regarded as suspect, especially those little ones. At that age, they might be OK for a year or two more if you are only ever going a few kms to the local ramp at 60km/hr.

Tyres deteriorate with age. Rubber perishes, salt water penetrates and gets into the steel belts. I have a mate who is a tyre expert and he says replace them after 5 years, regardless of how they look to your eye.

I wouldnt remotely consider using those 6 year old tyres at higher speeds on the highway or freeway. Remember, those little tyres are spinning much faster than your car's tyres and therefore subject to more stress and heat build up. Combine that with age related deterioration and you are looking for trouble.

other things can add up over time as well eg ..
Moisture, even moisture from slightly flat tyres sitting on the lawn;
Sun UV, & I think read somewhere on Ausfish that spray on black shine can cause damage.

Thanks for the replies,

I have sourced 8 ply, highway pattern tyres from a place at Burleigh.
When they come in I will inspect.
I will replace two tyres and keep one of the existing tyres as a spare.
The $$$$ seem OK.
If this works out OK it is good to know that tyres of this size are still available.

Of course they are still available, plenty on trailers have them, lots of old Minis had 10" wheels.
