a glassy day yesterday so shot out to the Barwon Banks to get a couple of reefies.
Had a paternoster on the bottom, and a gar as a floater. Next thing the floater takes off and a decent black starts tail walking and doing the marlin stuff. Great fun to see and experience.

In between fighting the fish and winding the bottom rig up, it peeled a lot of line. As soon as the bottom rig was stowed I chased it and got back some. It span the ski many many times. Fight took 30 minutes before it came alongside, and then I swam it for another 20 and it came back to life and took off.

Great experience. At a rough guess I'd put it around the 50kg mark.

Didn't have the Go-Pro, but had to get something to show, so here's a few one-handed phone shots when it came near the ski.
